Question about Kenmore 63942 Dryer

1 Answer

Dryer won't starWt or turn over

When I hit the start button you will hear a sort of grinding noise. It wants to start then eventually the grinding noise goes away and nothing happens. For awhile if you would wait in between dryings you could get it to work but not always thru a whole drying cycle. It is as if it had to cool down. I think it has to be the motor.

Loud grinding noise

These are the bearing that the drum rides on. There are bearings in the back and the front. Replace all of them where you hear the grinding, front or back.

My gas dryer is a whirlpool LGR4634eq0. Timer starts but when I press the power button i hear a load noise( like a stuck hinge) and the dryer wont start. Help

The power button is usually called a "start" button. For as long as you hold it down, it provides power to the motor. When the motor gets up to speed, centrifugal force holds the switch closed for you. This is why a quick (short) opening of the door will not stop the dryer and a quick press of the start button will not start the dryer.
This, however, does not explain the noise...
The motor turns a belt which wraps (sort of) around a pulley which is on a spring (and also around the drum). The spring should hold tension on the belt, but the belt should not be so resistive (drum refuse to turn) to cause the tensioner to strike anything.
Can you turn the drum by hand?
The drum rides on two wheels. They should roll smoothly.
:o).

My dryer seems to run rough. I changed the belt but won t turn with wet clothes. What could it be. Thx

I would say the dryer has a failed central ball bearing. You can say it by turning the drum manually, with the belt not installed and hearing for the tipical "grainy" sound of the rusted or stucked bearing.

We have a Maytag gas dryer that is probably 15 to 20 years old. It still works fine, but it makes a noise when it fist starts up. Sort of like a grinding sound .

I hit the start button on my maytag MDE9206AYW and it don't start

Sounds like the motor is going bad. If you keep going like that eventually you will hear a loud noise, and it won't even start.

Dryer doesn't want to run- makes grinding noise

its sounds like a worn bearing problem.with the m/c switch off ,turn drum by hand and see if it is hard to do so.if you get a gritty feeling in your hands or hear a grinding noise, then that is probably the bearing.

When turning, loud grinding noise.

Can be a tensioner pulley with bad bearings or the rear drum bearing is shot. When the rear drum bearing goes bad, the drum drops slightly and starts rubbing and making all sorts of terrible noises. I would not run it like this as the pivot on the rear of the drum that rides in the bearing could be cutting into the support. Not a good thing.

Good Luck and hope this helps.

Dyer was grinding, then won't run

Sounds to me like you motor has froze up. Is there any smell coming from the dryer? The fuse would not cause this. A fuse would make the dryer do nothing when you hit the start button.
