SOURCE: Dehumidifier seems to not be dehumidifying

If your dehumidifier doesn't seem to run often but the humidity in the room is high, try adjusting the humidistat control on the dehumidifier to a dryer setting. If the dehumidifier seems to run constantly, but there's little or no water in the container, there may be a problem in the refrigeration system. Try cleaning the unit. If that doesn't work, you can't repair the refrigeration system yourself, you need a qualified appliance repair technician to do that.

Well to knowledge the problem 40 percent is dry. means your basement is great. humidity should be 30/50 percent 50 grows mold. also if it runs for a min the auot shut off is activating. check this first.

Noise

There are basically two moving parts, the fan and the compressor. It more then likely is the fan. Be sure the air path is clean and the fan blade does not hit anything. If it is the compressor I would suggest getting a new unit and using that one elsewhere for the short time it has left.

It is probably the start device(the coil looking things), as long as you don't hear the compressor humming. A loud hum is a lock compressor and the cost would be far greater than a new unit.

Bucket rattles loudly and compressor buzzes

Sounds like compressor is having trouble starting not much can be done with dehumidifiers because not many people work on them and they are very cheap to replace. Replace dehumidifier its not worth time and money cut you losses. If this helps please rate me and do a testimonial.

Whirlpool dehumidifier makes a lot of noise when running and vibrating, dehumidifier is only 4 years old it does take out the water but very noisey any way to quiet it down?

Hi,
When the compressors start to go bad they often start to get very loud also...the cost to replace the compressor will probably be more then a new unit...

Hi,
The compressor is a mechanical pump that will be loud...plus the fan has to move air to make it work correctly...not much you can do about it...

When running load noise coming from black cylinder

That part you identified is the compressor of the dehumidifier. Compressor is probably bad or going bad. When compressor go bad the valves start making noise and they lose alot of there efficiency.
