Ac to DC power supply

A rectifier is an electrical device that converts alternating current (AC), which periodically reverses direction, to direct current (DC), which flows in only one direction. The process is known as rectification. You can't run DC through a transformer to change voltage/current because it works on the building and collapsing of the field that comes with the sine wave of each phase. DC is just a straight line.

DC 4.5-30V 0-10A Dual LED Digital Volt meter Ammeter Voltage AMP Power

If you want to read just the DC VOLTAGE of your RV battery , with the multimeter in the proper VOLTS range , you would simply connect the red lead to the positive feed and the black lead to the negative feed and read the digital display of the meter.

Whenever you want to read DC AMPERAGE with a multimeter , first set the meter for it's highest amps. Then you must connect the meter leads in SERIES somewhere within the circuit. This means that you will have to first create an OPEN in the circuit and then connect one lead from the meter to one side of the open and the other meter lead to the other wire . For example : let's say we would cut one wire going to a light bulb and then we would connect the AMP meter between the 2 ends of the cut wire , we could now read the AMPERAGE or SERIES FLOW of the current that the bulb draws when it is powered on.
Remember , NEVER connect the AMP METER directly across a powered circuit. It's like putting a direct short across the circuit.
Be sure to select the proper AMPS range setting on the meter before connecting the meter to a circuit. I recommend starting with the HIGH amps setting first to get an idea of just how much the circuit being tested actually draws when it it powered on. If you would happen to first start with a lower amps range , you might blow the protective fuse located usually inside the multimeter. Do no exceed the range of amperage that the meter is rated for.

Broken power plugin port

The power plug in port you refer to is the DC Power Jack.

The AC adapter (Charger) converts AC electricity into DC electricity.
DC electricity has two poles. Positive, and Negative.
(Just like on a D cell flashlight battery)

The center pin of the DC Power Jack is the Positive connection.
The outer metal spring-like pieces, on the inside of the cylindrical shape surrounding the center pin, are the Negative connection.
(The pieces of spring-like metal, all connect to the Negative connection in the DC Power Jack)

Example of a replacement DC Power Jack, for the Asus Eee PC 1005HA Netbook,

[ Note*
Cannot agree with the replacement instructions they offer, at the bottom of the page.
Not everyone has access to a hot-air gun. A 25 Watt soldering iron, and Desoldering Braid, is better, and more easily accessed ]

1) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter, (Charger), and Battery.
2) Observe Anti-Static Precautions. Buy, and use an ESD wrist strap.
Electro Static Discharge.

(Average cost is from $3 to $6. Connect the alligator clip to a good ground source.
I connect to an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of an open, empty desktop computer case.

You are right, most of the situations like this end up that the charging connector fixed / soldered to the motherboard get damaged because of shaking the connector when ever we connect and disconnect it .

Computer will not power up. No problems before Turning off

It could be one of the following:
1. Bad/damaged power jack.
2. Bad motherboard.

DC Jack diagnosis:
1. Test power adapter for output voltage. Bend the power cable in various directions while doing this to be sure that there is no broken conductors in the cable.
2. If power adapter is Ok, connect it & see if the power LED on the laptop will glow when you jiggle the power connector in various directions. If yes, then the DC jack might be loose or damaged, & need to be either re-soldered or replaced.
3. If not, then disassemble the laptop. Remove any components that attach to the laptop's motherboard first (e.g. battery, hard drive, RAM, wireless card, optical drive, ... etc.)
4. Next, remove the keyboard & the LCD screen.
5. Finally, unscrew all screws that hold the upper cover & lower cover together so that you could gain access to the motherboard.
6. Inspect the solder points connecting the DC jack to the motherboard. Make sure that none of them is loose. If any, re-solder them.
7. Inspect the center pin in the DC jack. Make sure that it is not broken or loose. If it is, then you might need to replace the DC jack.
8. When you are done, re-assemble back the laptop

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.
4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.
5. The power button could be bad.
6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.

No light when charger connected to laptop.

You do not have to resolder the connection, the dc jack is attached to the motherboard via a cable and plug. You can purchase these on Ebay for under 20 bucks. Below is the link to the disassebly guide that will assist you.

I just rescued this SVP DC-8000 from a garage sale, as a camera to carry at work and on my motorcycle. It works perfectly, but no software. Know where I can get the software bundle?

I'm not familiar with this camera so I did a Google search. It keeps coming up as an underwater camera and instead of 8000 it's an 800. It's also quite expensive if it really is what I found. The only downloads available are the drivers for various computer operating systems and the operating manuals. You can easily use a card reader to download any pictures you take with it but I would definitely download the owner's manual. It's available at the Sealife website. Just Google Sealife cameras and you will find the link to take you there.
