Bose radio display doesn't show at all

Hi - This radio has some years on it but is not ancient by any means, can't remember exactly when it was purchased.

I got the display to work for just a little while but then it faded to black once more. Replaced the battery but I don't think that matters.

Radio does not have a CD player.

I saw a tip here to hold down the clock set button while adjusting volume but this did not work. Have unplugged & plugged in several times, radio will play just no display.

Would love to be able to use it for my clock radio, really appreciate any help you can give!

Thanks for the superfast answer! I'm good with the alcohol and toothbrush and hope I can take the thing apart but not sure exactly what I'm looking for with the lcd connector and lcd IC.

OK - I probably won't play with this until the weekend.

Sounds like it will work though!

Thank you for your patience! :)

Hi again XD, all the buttons on my radio are on a center panel on top, like the pic of the older model above. Looks like it would be possible to pop the top off with a screwdriver in a little slot on the back that might be for that purpose. Tried it real easy and it seems to be mounted on there real good though. Do I take off the top by taking out the 4 screws in the bottom? Hope I'll be able to get it put back together.

I have the cd wave radio with the buttons on top. It's about 6 years old and a few days ago the display just went black. When I press any button, the display comes back but only for about 5 seconds then blacks out again. All audio functions still work just fine. Am I out of luck? Thanks.

I just posted a similar problem and did 2 more minutes of research on this site to figure it out. Hold down the 'cd mode' and press the on/off button. This turns the display on or off.

    LCD = the screen.

will see anything connected to the screen such as wires and Internal Circuits and nozzels.

Why is my Bose radio is too dim?

The Bose Wave Radio has two brightness levels: Bright Hi (with a range of 8-15, and default of 10) and Bright Lo (1-8, default 4). The radio automatically goes from Hi to Lo when a room is darkened so the display doesn't interfere with sleep.
On recent models you can reset the defaults to make the display brighter or dimmer in both Hi and Lo levels.
1. Press and hold the Alarm Setup (Menu) button on your remote until -setup menu- appears in the display.
2. Then press the Tune/MP3 button until Bright Hi- appears. Use the Time - or Time + buttons to change the settings.
3. Go to Bright Lo- and adjust that setting too if necessary.
4. Press Alarm Setup (Menu) again to exit setup, or simply wait 10 seconds.
You're done! Note that if you set both Hi and Lo to 8, the brightness will stay the same all day and night.

How do you get the display light on a bose radio to stay on

Do you mean keep it from going dim in a dark room? The settings menu has "Bright Hi" and "Bright Lo" adjustments you can make in ranges from 1-8 (Lo) and 8-10 (Hi). Check your manual under the heading "The setup menu" for very clear instructions.

The time display is dark. the radio works and I can set an alarm but the time display is dark. I seem to remember there is a battery somewhere that may need to be replaced.

I have a ten year old bose wave/radio/cd player. Sound is great but want to play music from my ipod through the bose. my ipod plays in car using aux cable but this does not have same result when...

Anything that has a headphone output can be adapted to feed an RCA cable pair for standard stereo to any audio device with a standard RCA input (except PHONO). Get a cable like the one described here:
and connect it into any available analog input EXCEPT "Phono".

My 10+ year old Bose wave radio/alarm on fritz

Replace the 3 AA batteries that maintain memory & backup alarm function. That just may do the trick.

I have a problem with time display on my Bose CD/Clock Radio.

I found the answer on the Bose website in the manual for the radio. While the radio is on, hold down Alarm Setup and preset 1 at the same time. That will set it so the clock displays. If you do the same thing but hold down preset button 2, that will display the radio info all the time.

Bose wave radio

Bose does not release their parts lists or schematics, effectively creating a monopoly for parts and repairs. In fact, their web site says that the Bose factory is the only option for service or repair. They used to list a flat rate repair charge on the web site, but removed it - probably because it scared too many people. Their troubleshooting guide (below) might help, but it's very simplistic.

Before you invest in expensive factory repair on one of these trouble prone sets, you might want to investigate the new HD radios -- better sound at a MUCH lower price.
