Main problem with these is crumbs, they get stuck between the 2 surfaces of the small electromagnet that keeps the lever down, consequently it does not stick anymore, try drop kicking it in the drection of the garbage can, this sort fright may just scare it into working again.

The contacts for these toasters fail. The plasic cam that depresses the contacts also can melt. The design is poor and no replacement parts are available. When selecting a setting, if the selection is not exactly perfect, the contacts arc and eventually fail. Unless cuisinart changes the selection cam to a solid state or relay, this failure will continue to happen during normal use. If your unit works properly do not switch the function setting while heating, this will cause the contacts to arc and erode the contact surface. This posting is applicable to the TOB-30BC, TOB-30BCC and probably all TOB-30XXX models.

You can try to clean the contacts with alcohol (and/or very fine sand paper/brass brush...) as stated above, but the fix is a near term solution and eventually the contacts will arc and pit again. This leads to higher temperatures across the contacts and if the contacts fail before the plastic cam melts, your free to address the contacts for cleaning again. Just remember this failure will occur more frequently each time. Once the cam fails (melts) your out of luck. Write Cuisinart and tell them how unhappy you are with your toaster oven. If you get the same response I did (we only will replace it under warranty) then feel free to recycle it (or throw it away) and spend your money on a delonghi (no affiliation - my hand me down 7 yr old one keeps working great) or another brand. Companies these days should have better quality control on the products (from china) they slap their name on.
For the record, mine TOB030 has about 10 hrs run time on it before it failed @ 1.5yrs old. The inside is still brand spanking new!
Just my 2 cents.

SOURCE: No Oven but still Toasts
Never buy black & decker they don't supply parts they want you to rebuy the same junk over & over. its a shame this is what american companies have become buy japanese they last longer and make replacement parts.(I'm not unpatriotic just an informed consumer).
