SOURCE: broken plastic bit that connects the sata cable to the maxtor hard drive

Not really,if the retainer on the HDD is broken.
You could try embedding the sata cable to the HDD using a contact adhesive, but ensure none gets inside on contacts. This is only a qik fix but I have use in the past to get by.

SOURCE: Problems installing a SATA hard drive

Hi Tony. As you are using a SATA hard disk then I would firstly check a few settings, this involves loading the computer BIOS. When you see the computer first turn on, you should be prompted to press "F2" to enter the BIOS screen.

From here select "Enter BIOS SETUP UTILITY" then "Advanced screen" and finally "IDE Configuration"
Verify that 1) Onboard IDE Controller is set to "Enabled"
and          2) “SATA Operation Mode” is set to "[non-RAID]"

Once you have done this, you should see the HDD listed beside SATA 1 or SATA 2 (depending on which port you plugged the hd in to) then press F10 to save and exit. The computer will now start up as normal.

If you have more trouble after checking these settings, please write us again.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: Maxtor 250 GB SATA problem: Foreign disk problem

Firstly, Unplug the cable connecting to the external HDD. Then go to my computer, right click on it and select use your legs and hands to dismantle maxtor HDD. Look at the maxtor brand title on the HDD. Press the 'X' letter as hard as you can for at least 100 times. The external HDD will open up to form the shape of letter 'X' and there will be a button called start to initialize the harddisk. After finish using, unplug the drive and HOLD IT TIGHTLY. IF NOT, IT WILL
FLY UP INTO THE AIR TO THE CEILING AND THE LIGHT WILL TURN RED WITH A EXTRA LOUD BEEP SOUND THAT MAXTOR DRIVES HAVE!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

SOURCE: Hi, I have a maxtor SATA drive with my OS

The computer has to determine from which hard drive it will be booting
it cannot do so on its own
the user has to tell that to the computer through the bios
when your computer starts keep pressin F2 or delete key (acc to which you bios starts)
you will see a blue screen with lots of info on it

somewhere in there you will see a "boot " section, in there you will see hard drive priority
on that select your hard drive that has the OS as top hard drive
save and exit

there you go

SOURCE: My hard drive is going bad. So says my HP Compaq dc7100 SFF

Instead of posting here, why don't you look for a dealer.
You can buy hard drives just about anywhere now - and it doesn't have to be Maxtor.

The new HDD uses a SATA data interface as well as a SATA power interface. You will need a SATA cable as well as a power supply that supports the SATA power connectors. Since this is an older machine you will probably need to buy a SATA cable and a Molex to SATA power connector. This should cover any cabling issues that you are having.

How do I set the jumpers on my Maxtor DiamondPlus 9 80 GB SATA /150 HHD drive as a second drive.

SATA drives are jumperless -- each drive has its own cable to the motherboard or controller -- so there's no setting on the drive to say "primary" or "secondary" as there was with IDE.

The connection on the controller or the motherboard will determine which drives are primary and which are secondary.

Maxtor one touch iii unable to read drive; the external hard drive previously worked and now it doesn't read the drive

please remove the raw drive from the casing
it may be a sata drive of maxtor please power it up directly to your pc with a sata power and sata cable
the drive will get recognised .
if it gets recognised it means the interphase between the disk and the ext casing has been damaged

if you fail , the disk has lost its firm ware or rom chip rom bin file.
both can be flashed and recover the drive
BEcaerful you can break the plastic casing while removing the raw drive as it had been machine dyed and fixed and you may not find any screw s outside

My internal hard drive may be defective, how can I test it?

Question

My internal hard disk drive may be defective, how can I test it?

How can I determine if the problem is with my system or with the hard drive?

It is necessary to run the SeaTools, SeaTools Enterprise, or SCSIMax diagnostic before contacting Technical Support 1.800.SEAGATE (1.800.732.4283) on an internal drive that may be defective.

Answer
For Seagate or Maxtor (or Quantum) ATA drives:

If this is a Seagate or Maxtor (or Quantum) ATA or SATA drive, please download the SeaTools for DOS diagnostic to test it. If the drive is failing, the tests in SeaTools for DOS will indicate as such.

If the BIOS does not recognize the drive or the drive does not spin please reference Answer ID: 48

The operating system will not recognize a drive that is not formatted and partitioned. If you need help with formatting:

  • Windows 9x and ME reference Answer ID: 3076
  • Windows 2000 Answer ID: 880
  • Windows XP Answer ID: 3361
  • Windows Vista Answer ID: 3844
  • Macintosh Answer ID: 492

    For Seagate SCSI drives:
Please download the SeaTools Enterprise Edition diagnostic.

For Maxtor (or Quantum) SCSI drives:
    Please download the SCSIMax diagnostic.

SeaTools, SeaTools Enterprise, and SCSIMax will test your S.M.A.R.T-compliant ATA, SATA, or SCSI disk drive for media defects, perform a read test, physical head test and ensure the hard drive is functioning correctly.

If all the tests pass (no trouble found), the problem remains elsewhere in your system. Reconfirm all settings for hard drive jumpers, cables, and ATA, SATA, or SCSI controllers, and disk operating system. Consult your host controller documentation or system manufacturer for assistance with SCSI termination or ATA / SATA controller capabilities.
