Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W50 Digital Camera
My cybershot dsc-s500 hasn't been dropped or anything, but suddenly it started acting up like this. The camera turns on and displays th "cyber-shot" screen like it should, but the little red light turn on too, and the lense comes out then immediately retracts and the camera turns off.
I have experience this unfortunately the drive mechanics
motor and more so the gears are plastic when mine dropped it broke a tooth on the gear off the drive motor that drives the worm gear that extends and retracts the lens assembly. this sad to say but the units are not repairable and the assembly has to be replaced owen to the fact that it really is cheaper to replace the assembly than try and repair it.

Testimonial: "thank you. i had heard this before. after wiggling the lens it will go in and out now."
Sony has the roughest firmware known to man for digital cameras. If running Windows XP or Vista you can simply connect the camera to the USB port and let the computer do the rest. Picbrige works the best for it downloads the quickest. Picbrige will be on your cameras list of choices to use for downloading
