SOURCE: cutler hammer a10ano series a-1 contactor

There should be 2 contactors for forward and reverse. you have to wire them so that the power coming in will switch 2 opposite phases to reverse.

SOURCE: Sometimes compressor breaker is tripping. Breaker

Breaker is to small , if the full load amps of the unit is 95 amps , to correctly size the breaker to code multiply the full load amps by 175% minimum and 225% maximum. A 200 amp breaker is the size breaker that I would recomend for this application.

SOURCE: York 3phase compressor tripping on low currant microprocessor.

If the unit is single phasing this is not good for the compressor. Does the system have a phase monitor? If not I would suggest you put one in to save thousands of dollars on the replacement of the compressor. How is the oil level? I ask because this are not to run themselves out of oil.

SOURCE: trane voyager rooftop second stage

One of the safety switches in the control circuit for the secind stage are bad... the contacts are pitted or corroded and are not passing the full voltage will be hard to find the bad one because it will only do it under load...I would start jumping out safety switches for a short time and checking voltage to the coil til you find the culprit...

Need to diagnose by opening the cover to the control section and check power (24volts) where the thermostat wires connect. Check for power between terminals C and R, it should have 24 volts. Check for power between C and Y, it should be 0 volts. If there is voltage from C to Y, the thermostat is calling for cooling. If the voltage from C to Y is zero and compressor still running, the compressor contactor may still be energyzed, check for power to the coil of the compressor contactor, it should be 0 volts, if there is voltage there, the wiring has shorted and need to locate the fault. If the voltage is 0 volts, the compressor contactor is stuck or the contacts are welded together shut and needs replacing.
Some electrical skill level needed to work on live wiring, safety precautions taken. If you may, disconnect the power to the unit and inspect the compressor contactor, exercise it, the plunger should move in and out freely, a cover small contacts cover can be removed for visual inspection of the contacts, welded, burnt, stuck shut are some conditions that can be found with the compressor contactor.

you will have to look at the schematic for this theirs different units that wire different way but that sounds correct the way you have it you can double check reverse the start and run always write this down when doing these the supply house can help you to be sure just ask them say hay the diagram has worn away what is t1,t2,and t3 double check your cap it could call for a different size all compressors that ive seen does take a start capacitor some even require start assist kits unless they are three phase what is this compressor going on email me I will help you more and even call my supply house if need be

I,m not exactley sure how to connect the wiring to the capacitor,on a three phase unit,or one that is wired for three phase (a/c).

If it is a three phase motor then it will not require a capacitor. Residential A/C compressors and fan motors have 3 wires coming out of then but they are not three phase, they are still single phase. If you are working with a residential system then you should have one wire that is common, one wire that is the start winding, and one wire that is the run winding. To connect it, L1 from the contactor would connect to one side of the capacitor. Connect the run wire to the same side of the capacitor. Connect the start wire to the opposite side of the capacitor. The common wire will connect to L2 on the contactor.

Compressor winding problem

A 3 PHASE COMPRESSOR THAT LOOSES A LEG WILL NOT RUN. SO BE SURE YOU HaVE all 3 legs and check the legs across to each other with your vom, and then to ground. any leg not showing up for the compressor wires may indicate you need a NEW CONTACTOR. Check this and see if you get the same readings.
