SOURCE: protector push power - dvd home theater system

Protect mode will kicking whenever a fault is detected.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Regards.

DVD changer is jammed on my Panasonic Sa-pt770 Receiver

if you have 2 tiny screw drivers, if not, the tips of a butter knife might be skinny enough, you can try to insert them a wee bit into both sides of the tray and pry outward, carefully of course, and unjam the tray

We have the RCA RS2767i Home Stereo with 5-disc changer and ipod dock. The CD Tray won't eject or shuffle...everything else works fine. It seems the disc tray isn't responding to anything. We read in the...

Let me respond with a possible solution although I'd bet that both of you already tried these.

The reason I checked into this is because I'm looking for a new mini system. I happen to be at Target and they only had 2 models - this one and a SONY. I certainly didn't want to buy the RCA given these problems, so I asked the salesperson, who seemed to have some knowlege.

As far as opening the tray on top, there is a button to push right under the tray. The button has an icon of a triangle on it. This seems to be somewhat of a standard icon for opening the tray or ejecting a CD (my car's CD has the same icon for ejecting a CD).

As far as only being able to get 3 CD's out, there is another button under the tray marked "disc skip". This rotates the tray. When you open the tray, you can only get to 3 of the CD's. When you push disk skip, it rotates the tray one position, so you can get the 4th one out. Another push and now you can get the 5th one.

Sometimes my CD changer doesn't shuffle the disks. If I only have 1 CD or DVD in it and push the tray open button, the disk stays in the unit and the tray revolves to an intermediate position. I push the button to put the tray back and try disc skip; that usually works.

If your problems are not solved per above, then I definitely do NOT want to get this.

STR-DE945 stuck in auto protect mode?. I'm pretty sure it is the output capacitors but I do not Know where they are located to change them.

First of all my STR-DE845 started having the protector problem about 6 months ago and I bought this receiver back in 2001. This is what I found wrong with mine. After searching online I found a service manual for the receiver, this came in handy when diagnosing the problem. The first obvious thing was discoloration of the board around the IC 501, 601, and 701 Op-amps. When looking at the receiver from the front these are the three vertical NEC ICs to the right of the main amplifiers. Even with no load these amps get very warm. Sony failed to add any heat sink to these ICs so eventually they can de-solder themselves, specifically the 701 IC which is the one closest to the back of the unit. With mine I was able to slightly push the 701 more vertical, since it was leaning, and I believe it has helped it make a better contact. The protector circuit will kick in if it senses the Op-amps are shorted or not making contact. The best solution is to add some copper heat sink to these ICs, they already have screw slots for a heat sink. If they ever fail you will have to get new op-amps and re-solder them to the board. Hope this helps.
