Speakerphone when answering blackberry pearl 8100

When my blackberry is on a profile that is not vibrate or silent, when I answer an incoming call it is automatically on speakerphone. The person on the other end always tells me that they echo...but after about five seconds it switches back to a normal volume setting. How do I fix it to where when I answer an incoming call no matter what profile it's on a regular, not speakerphone, volume? I've tried changing all of my default call volumes on my profile to low but nothing works! Help! I have the same problem on a couple of 8310's and i m pretty sure it started happening right after i updated them to the new os 4.2.2 i think.

I have the same problem.I tried everything I could know. So being outside US and seeming that it is not a hardware problem the only way i see is installing the OS again. I have one from a torrent and maybe it is corrupt so i downloaded another from a phone provider in Spain. In my case it is almost incredible because everything with the sound of my BB Curve almost new works great except that i can´t hear who calls me. Only through the speakerphone or headphone.Depending on what happened i write my prompt after.

  • Anonymous Apr 24, 2009

when my phone is on the "normal" profile, i answer calls and they are automatically answered through speakerphone for 5 seconds, and then switches. i find this disturbing since this phone is a warranty replacement that i just got less than three days ago...

Same as main post. One of our users Blackberry 8310 Curve's answers on speakerphone for 5 seconds, during this time the caller gets bad feedback from an echo. The call then reverts to normal

Thanks !. But it is not so easy.I let the phone without battery for many times and I upgrade the OS and nothing happened. I think that it must be a hardware problem. What else?. Unfortunately i´m not in US and i can´t use the waranty in other words i have to keep the phone and i have to fix it. Thanks !

I had the same problem. When I answered a call, it was on speakerphone for about 4-5 seconds and the caller heard an echo. I did two things and between the two, the problem went away. First, I enabled and then disabled bluetooth (Options -- Bluetooth). It was already disabled, but thought maybe bluetooth was acting up. Last, I took out my battery while the phone was on, the reconnected the battery and turned on my phone. It echo/speakerphone issue went away....we'll see how long this lasts.

Press the button on top of the phone which is used for Mute. Screen would display " phone is entering standby mode". That fixed the problem for me

I had the same problem. I called T-mobil, my carrier, and they had me take the battery out while the phone was 'on' and put it back in. After the security scan was done, the tech called me back on my cell - problem fixed. (I'm not sure if he did something on his end too, but at least try it your self first!)

Ringer Not Working Properly

i would check your profiles. usually the default setting for the load profile is for it to vibrate twice and then ring, so that usually only gave you two rings to answer the phone after it vibrated twice. make sure that within your profile setting that you have it to ring with a tone, and make sure you have a volume selected. i would also use blackberry desktop manager and perform a back up or sync of your blackberry, and then perform a wipe handheld. the wipe hand held feature is in your options---security---general settings---and then press your options button (right of the trackball) and select wipe hand held. you will type the word blackberry and then it will wipe the handset. after it resets try the volume before you restore it, if you still don't have volume your speaker is bad.

Not sure if the pearl interface is the same as mine, a Storm - I have an option on my main screen to fast-select ring volume (called Notification), which affects both calls and messages, and I can choose loud, soft, vibrate, silent, and also go into options for more detailed settings. You may have such an option that is easy to find, and maybe easy to set by mistake, without realising it.

Pearl manual at this location:
http://docs.blackberry.com/en/smartphone_users/deliverables/1217/userguide_bb8100_gprs.pdf
see p193, Notification Profiles.
There are other keys, eg # that affect notification sounds/vibrate. Download and search in the manual for 'Notification" to find all the places mentioned.

Even if you have a paper manual, I recommend keeping the electronic one since you can easily search for keywords and find all the places they are mentioned quickly.
