The screen is permed, you will have to put your computer horizontal, screen up, and then you can use two suction cups in the diagonale of the screen. Then simply pull, but carefully of course..

Need to remove the HDD from an old Canon IR5570 copy machine, where is this located?

Hello msg,
Remove the upper rear cover (6 screws). Once removed you will see a large polished aluminum cover to your left. This covers the main controller and hard drive. Remove the 4 screws of the cover and remove it. This will expose the hard drive to you. CAUTION !! There will be a small cicuit board just to the right of the hard drive that needs to be removed. It is the counter PCB. Remove the one screw that holds it in place and "un-dock" it from the main controller so you will have room to remove the HDD. Remove the 2 screws for the hard drive and slide it to the right . Hope this helps. please let "FIXYA" know if i did help you. Take care SPINAL

Replace hard drive

1: Remove the RAM access door on the bottom of the unit.

2: The Glass Panel needs to be removed from the front of the unit. To do so you will need 2 heavy duty suction cups. The style that you would use to remove a dent from a car. You will need to put one on opposite corners of the glass panel
(http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/brspUaXYZhvWBhIu.medium)
not gently pull the glass off, trying not to flex it.

3: Now remove the 12 T8 screws from around the LCD, be gentle not to slip off the screw head and scratch the LCD.

4: Now Gently life the Aluminum Bezel from the top side. The Bezel will still be attached by a cable on the top. There will be a connector that is attached to the camera. Disconnect this cable and remove the Bezel.

5: On the Logic board, to the Left of the RAM there is a connector labeled "LCD Temp" remove this cable from the Logic Board.

6: In the middle rightish area, directly below the LCD there is a connector
(http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/tDNoZU1Z1bcqbNDP.medium)
Remove the 2 T4 screws from it and remove the connector from the Logic Board. There is a black ribbon on the top for you to pull. Pull it straight up from the board.

7: Around the LCD there are 8 T8 Screws, remove these and slowly life the LCD from the bottom, tilting it.

8: Two cables will be holding the LCD in. disconnect these and remove the LCD from the rest of the unit. Don't worry about mixing these up, they are interchangeable.

9: On the Hard Drive there will be a piece of tape holding down 2 sets of grey and black cables.remove the tape.

10: On the Logic Board, below the Hard Drive, there is a connector labeled "HDD Temp" Remove it.

11: Press the hard drive bracket down toward the bottom edge of your iMac to free it from the rear case, then rotate the top of the drive toward yourself. This will take a Considerable amount of force, be careful to to knock the iMac over.

12: Tilt the Hard Drive away from the unit, and remove the SATA and Power connectors. now lift the Hard Drive out of the iMac.

13:Now remove the Foam tape from the Hard Drive. Under it you will find the HDD thermal Sensor. You will need this when you install your new drive.

14: Now transfer the Hardware from the edges of the old drive (making sure to replace them in the EXACT same place on the new drive.

15 Don't forget to re-install the Thermal Sensor. THIS IS IMPORTANT. if the sensor is not installed, or not flush with the hard drive, the computer will think that the Hard Drive is over heating, and it will turn all the fans in the unit to max to compensate.

16: Now re-assemble and enjoy. Don't forget to format your new drive to Macintosh OS (Journaled)

Wont boot on its own, wont boot with install disc,

As the hard disk appears to be showing up when you boot up using the install disc, I would suspect that the system is somewhat corrupted. You could reinstall the system again and if you are happy starting from scratch and wiping the hard drive select this option failing that and there is some data on the imac you could install using the preserve user data. A fresh install should sort out any problems. Hope this helps.

I want to replace a shot hard drive on a 20 inch imac. I have a 250GB Serial ATA hard drive. Anyone know the steps?

Well there a couple of torq or philips head screws on the botom you will have to turn they do not come out just a simple turn to diengage them, you will have to place the monitor area between your legs and rest the base on your legs as the base is heavier than the top.Once you have pulled these screws there is one cables that you will have to unplug and a ground wire you will have to remove from the chasis(one screw). This will allow you to completly remove the base. Now that you are in there carefully long at the wire orientation and the location of the hard drive.Remember as you replace the drive how the cables are placed as when you replace the botom cover you do not want to pinch any cables.
Good luck
