Step 1:

Remove the Battery, Press the Power Button to Discharge any remaining power. Connect Power Adaptor to the Laptop. Attempt to Turn on the Laptop.

Step 2:

If you have any experience with pulling apart computers / laptops, you can very carefully remove the back plate covering the RAM &/or Hard Drive. Sometimes having a faulty hard drive / ram prevents the laptop from being able turn on correctly. In process of elimination try removing idividually the hard drive then followed by each stick of ram.

As soon as I removed the battery and hit the power button and plugged in my charger it started working again! Thank you. I see it is time for a new battery.

it may just have been that it suffered from a surge. sometimes what happens is that the capacitors suffer from a bad batch of power. Taking the battery out and pressing the power button disperses the left over power fixing the issue. 9 times out of 10 there isnt a fault with the battery

SOURCE: my hp laptop wont start power light flashes on

try powering up the laptop with the battery pulled. In my case, the battery was the culprit. Probably shorted.

SOURCE: screen wont turn on

remove the battery and the power from the laptop.....then press and hold down the power button for 20 seconds ...... attach the AC power only and turn on the laptop this should turn on the system.
This drains the capacitors on the system (safety feature of laptops ... quite common)

If this does not work remove the Ram and reseat it ... something has either come loose or the backlight on the LCD has gone bad.

I have an HP Pavilion dv7-1130 Entertainment Laptop, and as of recently, when I try to turn it on, the lights around the keyboard power on and the fan runs, then the fan stops and the lights stay on. No...

With an extensive use of the notebook,
some times notebook would store some static charges which
indeed will stop the notebook from powering up or charging
the battery. The procedure to remove this static charges from
the notebook is known as power drain. Performing a power
drain procedure will not effect any personal data or delete
any pictures from the hard drive on your notebook.
I recommend you use Power Drain procedure by following these
steps:

1. Disconnect the AC Adapter.
2. Remove the Battery.
3. Hold the Power button down for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
4. Reconnect the AC adapter.
5. Turn on the Notebook power.

My HP 6720 won't switch on. When connected to the power source, a steady blue light comes on (normal) then goes to a light blue then goes blank. If I press the 'on' button, a flashing orange light appears...

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.
4. The power button could be bad.
5. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.

Hp pavilion dv6000 turns onn and off

I had a similar problem with my pavilion. They have a cooling fan design that allows for lint buildup and subsequent overheating. You could try using a compressed air and blowing out the exhaust vent area for the fans.

Laptop wont boot and the battery and power lights flash

a simple power cycle might work. Take out the battery but keep the ac power connected. hold the poewr button down for 1 minute. then hit the power button again and it should poewr back up. If this doesn' t work. iyou said hte battery light flashes so the problem isnt the battery..the problem might be hte ac power adapter..if you have a warranty this would be a good time to call them. Try the power cycle first though this fixes the problems lots of the time
