Question about HP PL5060N 50 in. Plasma HDTV
Here's the number to HP case management 877-917-4380 ext.79, try this number and be firm that they need to fix this, I just had an HP plasma that was 3 yrs old replaced for free, no charge. Good luck

They may be components made by other manufacturers, but they are responsible for the product they sell and stamp their name on. You can be certain that HP went back to LG and was reimbursed for the faulty components. I didn't pay LG over $1000 for a tv, I paid HP and as a result they are responsible for the product they sell and have a responsibility to their customers. Well, that is if they want to remain a reputable company.

I fix those boards - find a replacement at my store on eBay http://stores.ebay.com/techfetch .
Of course the fix is only good until it happens again, which nobody in the world can predict in exact time.
if you're handy with soldering you can try and do it yourself. The replacement IPMs can be found again at the above store or elsewhere.
I must warn you, though, that sometimes it's not just the intelligent power modules that fail. Depends on the shock.
See some details at my blog at http://blog.coppelltvrepair.com.
Finally...it all fairness it must be said that this is not an HP fault in the first place.
If you think other plasma TVs do not have this problem you are wrong.
But there is a logic on putting pressure to the source and letting it deal with it as they like. In this case the panel and the Y sustain board are both made by LG, one of the largest plasma manufacturers in the world.
