i found more lint inside machine by removingface of machine after thorough cleaning even more turned on dryer with bottom door off. dryer ran ran nice and warm and burner seemed to be functioning properly until i put bottom cover back on burner shut off which makes me think it would be the temp switch or over limit switch you talked about

  • dave Jan 22, 2009

timed burner today after work stayed lit 15 minutes then shut off. reset timer to 60 minutes burner relit only for 5 minutes this time drum is turning the fan you are talking about is the one that blows into the vent tube? the glow wire turns on about every minute after the burner shuts off but the burner does not relight. I am trying to identify the parts you mentioned. the one is mounted on the end of the ventube with a few wires attached to it. the other units I see are on the outside of the burner tube -one centered on top-with wires----one on the top right side with 2 wires is there somewhere on the internet where i can find a picture or diagram of the burner and vent tube area of the dryer? thank you for your help dave

So the pilot does not light? If not, is the gas turned on?

You must get a pilot light before you get main burner.

  • Mark Egan May 11, 2010

The burner does not stay on the whole time the clothes are drying.

What describe the symptoms of failure you are having.

I think your diagnoses is correct on the thermostat being bad. But check a few more things.

If you remove the vent hose from the back of the dryer and let it run, does the burner shut down as you describe?

Are you certain there is not a clog in the "duct" within the dryer itself? The lint filter appears to be located at the bottom front of the dryer, just inside the door. There is a bell shaped plenum that the lint filter fit's into, that turns and points towards the bottom back of the dryer. Is that duct system clean?

It could be the temp switch, cycling thermostat, or the over temp limit. Considering how the unit is operating, the only way to tell which one is failing is to measure the voltage across each one while the dryer is operating. When it opens (meter reads voltage), watch to see if it ever closes (meter does not read voltage). The cycling thermostat should open and close throughout the drying process, but it could hang open. The temp limit should not open unless there is a duct clog, but, then it should close after cooling, acting like a cycling thermostat. It could also hang open.
Of course, the temp switch is only a switch but it could be bad intermitantly.

Each of these components is not too expensive, so you might just want to buy all three.

Let me know what you find.

How long did you let the unit run with the front cover off?

Putting the cover back on would have no impact on either of those two sensors, or the temperature they see, unless the cover restricts airflow in some way. Dryers are normally leaky enough for air to get through so as to prevent this from happening, unless there is thick dust blocking the other air leak points.

Is the drum turning? If not, and the motor is, then the fan isn't, or there's lint covering the grill area from the backside.

Let me know what you find.

Go to www.SearsPartsDirect.com and type and your model number. That's where I found it.

Yes, the blower is the one that runs with the drum turning. Both the drum and the blower are powered by the dryer belt that is driven by the motor.

Check the external vent near where it exits to the outside. A clog here is frequent cause of overheating and frequently goes undetected. Also, vacuum out all the lint inside the appliance.

Speed Queen dryer burner lights but does not dry clothes

This is a symptom of a severely clogged up vent or dryer passages.
Remove the vent duct hose from the back of the dryer and see if the problem persists. If it workes normally clean out the ducting and the through the wall flapper vent.
If the problem persists then remove the lint filter and inspect the air passages inside the dryer. Also check the exit hole where the vent duct connects for lint buildup. Use a crevice tool / vacuum to clear all dryer passages. If necessary use a folded coat metal hanger to assist in removing lint build up.

Wash the lint filter with whie wine vinegar and then soap and water to remove the dryer sheet particulate matter that builds up on the lint filter.

If the burner lights but goes out after 30 seconds then the flame sensor on the top of the burner assy ducting is bad.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Remove them and scrub them with a wire brush.
On a call for heat, the 24 volt thermostat sends a signal to the control module. The control module will indicate a call for heat with a light on the control either blinking or remain solid depending upon model. The inducer (exhaust) blower will purge all gasses from the furnace and pressurize a pressure switch. Once the pressure switch tells the module to continue, the electronic ignition will energize and send 120 volts to the igniter. The igniter will glow and you will be able to see it if viewed thru the small inspection port. Once the igniter gets hot enough, it sends a signal to the module opening up the gas valve (24 volts). Either a pilot will come on or the burner tube will ignite then spread the flame to all burners. Lastly a safety sensor will be looking for a certain temperature within a few seconds and the furnace will continue to operate and the room air blower will turn on in a minute or two.

What could go wrong? The unit will not run if there is no signal from the thermostat (bad thermostat or broken wire), the control module does not sense a signal from the thermostat (bad control), the inducer does not energize (bad motor), the pressure switch does not close (blocked vent piping, bad switch, plugged condensate hose), the igniter does not energize (bad control, bad igniter), the gas valve does not open or there is no gas (bad gas valve, broken wire, no gas), the pilot does not light (dirty pilot), the burner does not light (bad burner, plugged orifice, not enough combustion air), the flame does not spread to each burner (bad flame spreader, dirty flame spreader, more bad burners), the flame safety sensor does not detect flame (dirty or bad flame spreader, bad flame sensor, broken wire, bad control), or the room air blower does not energize (bad fan motor, bad control).

LG DLG3788W Gas Dryer: dry cycle takes too long. It doesn't seem to get very warm at all. The lint trap is clean and the vent pipe as well.

Try vacuuming the burner exhaust and intake pipes of their lint collection. If these passages are partially plugged, the burner will short-cycle and not provide proper heat. Try washing the lint filter in hot water and detergent to remove fabric softener deposits. Hope this helps.

It could be a few things, dirty pilot assembly, dirty or bad flame sensor or a bad gas valve or loose wire on the gas valve. Watch the flame as it lights to see if all the burners light. If not you will need to clean the burners and flame tray that spreads the flame to all burners. Good luck!
