It does it an brand new dvd's as well--i'm thiking i have a dirty lens on my dvd player? its a toshiba MW24FN1R model and the dvd player is built in...hmmm is it possible to open the back like the old days find the lens and blow air on it to clean it? or do I need to have it serviced?
Re: dvd pictures freezes [like the disc is dirty]...but..
If you can open the unit try blowing compressed air on the lens, if it does the same thing use a cotton swab with a small amount of alcohol and gently clean the lens with it. that should solve your problem if not you have a faulty laser optima.

It sounds that the laser pickup unit to your disc player is either faulty or dusty. Insert a lens cleaning disc into the player, and play it for at least two times. If the fault is with dust or dirt, this must solve the problem. If not, make sure that the optical pickup unit is faulty, and should be replaced. Lens cleaning disc an be bought form most of the electronic spare part shops at your town.
the problem is that the laser reader in the dvd player is too dirty to read the disc. you need to purchase a laser disc cleaner they range from $ 5. and run it in the dVd several times until the lazer is clean enough to read the disc
hi. the actual lens assembly has become unstable and this is misaligned the lens. it is unable to line up correctly with the inserted disk so that it may recognize and read the data. when this occurs, the default reading will be WRONG DISK.
You with have to replace the entire lens assembly, which is one whole piece, to actually restore this unit to its original state.
It may not be your tv, itmay be your dvd player, open the tray and blow into the tray compartment, or wipe off the lens. When the lens gets dirty, its like trying to look out through a dirty window, and when the lens goes over a part of the dvd with the area that is dirty, it cant read it so it skips over it.
Hapy new year, hope this helps
