Question about Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop Jet Black

1 Answer

Wireless connectivity problem

Hi there, I have this Dell Inspiron 1525 Jet black since about 6-7 months now. I unfortunately downloaded ZoneAlarm Free and messed it up. I disabled it to load so it is not bothering me anymore but when I butchered it off of the machine,(it wouldn't uninstall) I couldn't use the wireless to get on line. Finally I did some system restore and got it back to work. Kind of. The problem is, I only can log on to my friends wireless ISP by rebooting. Also it disconnects the web site after I change pages a few times. It still says I am connected, but I can't load new pages. It acts like I am not on line, so I have to restart again and again and again, just to get me back on. It is driving me crazy because at home I only have dial up. That works all the time of course. Anybody have any idea? I would be so thankful. I am unemployed and broke, since a long time so only help if you can do it for free. Thanks a million. Gabe Home: 209.586.3650 Cell: 209.206.0287

I'll be happy to help, if I can. First go out to Dell's website and download the latest driver for wireless device. Be sure to choose your OS at the top. The driver you want will be listed under Network. You can identify the model in the Device Manger. Also download the latest BIOS update if you need it. You can find the BIOS version when you first start the laptop and the Dell logo comes up. Un the logo will be the BIOS version, probably A06 of something like that. It may take a while if you have to use dial-up.

Now for the fun! Open the Device Manager and uninstall your current wireless device. When that is finished, do not restart if it wants to do that. Update the BIOS. Just double click on the file and say yes to the update. The laptop will restart, the BIOS will be flashed and Windows will start again. When Windows restarts, it will detect and want to install the wireless card. Cancel the installation. When Windows is fully loaded, double click on the wireless driver file you downloaded and follow the prompts. You will probably need to restart the laptop again when the installation finishes. You will need to re-configure the wireless card for security, etc., when you go to use it.

That should do it, and it won't cost anything. I like it!

Good luck and please let me know how it works out for you.

I presume that Vista has just been installed and connecting wireless. Check if the Wireless switch is on (edge on the right side. IF no change, install the software driver that is on Drivers/Utilities CD that came with your computer. Please comment if the information has been helpful. Thank you and regards.
