Question about Gaggia Titanium Espresso Machine

1 Answer

Gaggia titanium not pumping water after descaling

I descaled/decalcified the machine yesterday using one pack urnex activated descaler with 500 ml hot water. After the reservoir was empty, the display switched to rinse mode. I rinsed out the reservoir and filled it back up with clean water, and pushed the descale button, the pump turned on, but immediately, no water was coming out. The machine displayed rinse finished, and then the dreaded ventilate message popped up. I pressed the water drop button, and turned the knob, and the pump ran, but nothing came out. From then on, the pump hasn't been able to pump any water through.

I took off the back of the machine, and started testing the water lines. The water line was flowing through the flow-meter and into the pump inlet. I not 100% sure it's not restricted, as although I could blow water through the flow-meter, it did take some effort to do so. Once all the water was through, then it is easy to blow air through it. I disconnected the two outlet pipes from the pump and fed water through the inlet tube with the pump on, and no water comes out. There was no air in the line when I did this.

So although the pump runs, it doesn't pump water. I assume it's a bad pump.

My first question is how do i change the pump? I don't see anything obvious to unscrew. It is held on by some rubber flanges with holes cut in them.

My next question is could anything else be blocked between the pump and the steam wand and/or the brew group? Is there a way to test it?

Thanks in advance.

Line could be blocked at the boiler, check the the line that runs to the steam/hot water valve.
Did you try disconnecting the other side of the pump to see if indeed it doesn't work when you turn it on.
For the pump, if you remove the top connection and the electrical connections you can slide it off the top flange, then using a flat edge screwdriver on the back middle of the bottom flange where is sits on the frame you can get the pump out.

SOURCE: descaling

(Button 26 is the right-most one (2 intersecting
ovals.)
From the Manual:
Press the button (26) for at least 5 seconds to
select the descaling operating mode; the LED
emits a fixed light.
• Direct the steam nozzle (14) toward the drip
tray.
• Position a vessel of adequate capacity under
the steam nozzle and turn the hot water knob
anticlockwise (16). The appliance starts an
automatic descaling cycle with pauses preset
by the manufacturer and managed
automatically by the appliance.
• At the end of the cycle, the flow of the
descaling solution is shut off and the 5 buttons
start flashing simultaneously.
• Turn the knob of the hot water nozzle (16)
clockwise to OFF. In this case, also the warning
light (27) flashes.
• Rinse the water tank and fill it with fresh
drinking water.
• Position a vessel of adequate capacity under
the steam nozzle and empty 2/3 of the
contents of the water tank by turning the steam
knob (16) anticlockwise; to shut off the flow,
turn the knob (16) clockwise.
• Let the appliance heat up and empty the
remaining contents of the water tank by turning
the steam knob (16) anticlockwise; to stop the
flow, turn it clockwise.

Why does my gaggia titanium say 'ventilate' 24 hours after decalcifying?

There is an air gap in system running the hot water clears it out.

I have decalcified my Gaggia Synccrony twice using a product from the grocery store called dip-it and it is still saying to decalcify the machine

First of all - Dip-it is a detergent to remove rancid oils from coffee cups and coffee makers. That is not the same thing as a decalcifier or descaler. Dip-it was never meant to go through your boiler and pump and valves and all the other parts inside your Gaggia.

I'm quite sure that if you read the Gaggia manual it will tell you to use a special descaler such as Dezcal or Durgol.

Some people say use white vinegar - the manual specifically says not to use vinegar.

The machine is pretty expensive - it's worth buying the right product to descale it.

The manual should walk you through the steps to descale which will clear the error message once all the steps have been completed. I don't own that specific model, but typically you add the dezcal powder to very warm water in the water tank. Then start the descale process which will prompt you to open the steam valve and pump some water through the steam valve (into a container you place under the steam wand to catch it). Typically it will cycle a little water then pause for several minutes while the descaler disolves the calcium build up in the boiler - then it will pump a little more though and then wait etc. etc. Depending on your machine it may pump water out the coffee spout as well as out the steam wand. If so, the machine should prompt you to tell you to open and close the steam valve.
After it has run all the chemical through the machine (usually after it has emptied the tank) it should then prompt you to rinse. You remove the tank and wash it out and fill it with clean drinking water and then let the machine continue on the rinse cycle which will pump all the clean water through the unit. So you need to be on hand to catch all that water and dump it in the sink. When you are all done, run a few blank shots and make sure the water tastes like clean drinking water. The descaler is mostly citrix acid (like lemon juice) so if the water tastes sour like lemons then it isn't completly rinsed yet and you may want to pump more fresh water through the machine (pull blank shots or pump hot water through the steam wand) until it is fully rinsed.
Once the machine completes the rinse cycle it should stop prompting you that you need to descale.

Our titanium gaggia machine is displaying decalcify, what do we need to do?

If you have a display that says "Decalicify machine" mdo this. To automatically descale your machine, press the scoop button and hold it down until you enter the menu. Use the arrows on the left to scroll down until you come to Descale. Press enter and the machine will enter the mode to descale your machine. The process takes about 45 minutes. You don't have to do a thing except mix a full water tank with descaling solution and have a container under the steam wand when your start. It must be large enough to catch all the water in the tank. To start the descaling process, simply turn the steam knob. When the process is over your machine will say "Descale finished". Remove your water tank and rinse it out. Refill it with fresh water. Replace on the machine and start the descaling process over again to rinse your machine. Go back into your menu and scroll up or down 1 to signal descale and enter. Choose "Yes" and push enter so the machine will tell you when you need to descale again.

to descale the machine there is a auto descale function on the machine using the double ellipse button. Hold down button for about 5 seconds display will read descale(prepare solution first). The rest is easy just follow the onscreen instructions.

Ventilate problem

need to go through menu to factory reset. This gets machine to ready. You now need to decalcify with a citric acid descaler, not vinegar. With the water tank filled with descaling solution go through the menu to rinse option and rinse machine. When finished rinse cycle and with remaining descaling solution push water button open side knob and rinse the steamer system with descaler.
