You either have a bad defrost board or bad temp sensor. Need to have a qualified technician check it. To manually defrost set your unit to cool for a few minutes.

Need heat pump wiring diagram for carrier 38yka030300

All Carrier has on this is installation instructions & field wiring. If your heat pump is freezing up, then check your defrost board to see if the timing jumper for checking the freezestat is set to 30,60, or 90 minutes. If it is set to 90, then set it either to 30 or 60 for the board to check the freezestat more often to go into defrost. Then again, the system could be a little low on refrigerant.

While in heat mode the condenser freezes up.1200 model

This is how air conditioners work.

They transfer heat from (usually) hot places to cooler places.

When working in the opposite direction, the machine is attempting to pump heat from the cool place (making it colder) to the warm place (making it warmer).

Flushing the frozen condenser with cold water adds more heat to defrost the condenser, but it will refreeze when you try extracting more heat from the cold place.

I have noticed my heat pump is freezing up on the outside unit, we have had freezing rain and snow the last 2 days but I have never noticed ice accumulation on the outside of the unit, it also seems like...

In freezing weather the heat pump efficiency drops. The freezing is normal. The equipment has a board and sensor to defrost your heat pump. Now this system can fail but freezing rain and snow get pulled into the unit get pulled into the unit coil and freeze blocking airflow. You can defrost the unit by turning it to cooling. This is what the defrost board does automatically.

I have a goodman heat pump model# ssz140301 where is the defrost timer located on the heat pump

In the out door unit, Remove to cover there should be a control board in there defrost time is usually adj by 30,60,90 min settings on the board. If is freezing up try to adj time or the unit could have a bad sensor or control board.

My heat pump is frozen up today and it is 60 degrees outside and I have my heat set to 66 degrees. Is this normal?

You post is not clear as to where the freeze-up is occurring. I'm going to assume the outdoor unit is frozen up.
Heat Pumps don't generally freeze up at 60 degrees. If the ice around the unit has an uneven pattern (for example a thick spot around the center or at the very bottom) could indicate a low refrigerant charge. If the ice is even throughout, it may be one of the following:
*Sticking Contactor*.....turn the system off at your thermostat and check to make sure the unit outside shut off. If it doesn't turn off, it is likely to be the contactor.
*Failed Defrost Thermostat*.....if the defrost thermostat fails "open", the system will never go into defrost.
*Failed Defrost Control Board*......this could also prevent the system from going into defrost
*Failed Reversing Valve*........put your system in COOL mode and check to see if it will blow cold air inside approx 16 - 22 degF lower than room temperature.
*Failed/Failing Condensor Fan Motor*.......ensure the condenser fan motor is running during heat and cool modes. The condensor fan motor will not run in OFF/Satisfied Mode or in Defrost Mode.
I hope this helps. Good Luck! :-)

Armstrong Heat pump Package Unit, Model#1B36DA-9B,

Hi, the outdoor unit will start to freeze when it is cold outside, but also it should go into a defrost mode to melt this ice either by the defrost board or defrost thermostat. You will know as steam will rise like smoke and some folks think it is on fire. If it never goes into defrost, get back to us and we can go through some things to check. Merry Christmas,

Condenser frost's up on my heat pump

On a heat pump the system reverses during the heat cycle to bring in outside heat that will cause the outside coils to ice up. There is a defrost timer or pc board to send the unit into defrost every so often. This is a common problem with heat pumps or possibly low or refrigerant. Heat pumps will freeze up at low outside temps, but unless your in the Artic right now that shouldn't be a problem.
