Stop and either go buy a Gator Grip socket or take it to a dealer or repair shop

SOURCE: impeller removal

Since the impeller is mounted on the crankshaft and the crankshaft is part of the engine...you're going to have to hold the engine still while you remove it. Do this by removing the engine's spark plug...turning the engine to where the piston is down near bottom of cylynder and stick a length of clean, soft rope or cord in the cylinder. Then, when you try to take the impeller off, the piston will compress the rope into the head (not hurting anything) locking up the engine and allowing you to do the removal.

SOURCE: ohv motor, has compression but

If there is a simple fix for your problem, it lies in checking valve lash. Any other problem means going into the engine to find. I hope this is helpful for you.

SOURCE: Replacing the pull cord on

This is from the tech center at Troy-Bilt.......Take the spark plug out and stuff the plug hole with a piece of rope. I used 3/8 nylon, and stuffed it in until I couldn't get any more in....WA-LA!!!!! A few turns with my ratchet wrnch, and I was on my way to success! A breaker bar would be better if you have one.It will save the gearing

I have a 2 cycle Troy-Bilt TB90BC line trimmer. Won't idle. I've had the carburetor dipped, installed a new carb kit, replace the gas lines, but will only run at full speeds. Dies out easily....

One of three things is occuring here. The IDLE SPEED SCREW (Phillips head) on the throttle plate is screwed in way too far. The L and H mixture screws are open way too much allowing the carb to use excessive fuel, even on startup. Those 2 screws may need adjusting. The metering lever in your carb is not adjusted flush with the carb body flange and is holding the gas needle open constantly. Check these things and post back.

I have a 2 cycle Troy-Bilt line trimmer. I've had

Sometimes, unfortunately, the chemicals and solvents used in a "dip" and/or cleaning solution are too harsh. They tend to "swell" the very sensitive check valves inside the carb. The idle fuel circuit has one, the high speed main nozzle has one, and there are one or two inside the primer pase assembly on top of the carb. You state that it won't idle, but does it run otherwise. If it does, some carb adjustments may be required on the L and H screws to get it to idle.

I have stripped my ALKO ride-on mower down to replace the drive belt. However, I cannot get the drive belt over the engine pulley, due to a metal obstruction getting in the way. To det round this, I need...

You will need to take off he main pulley. I did this by knocking in a wood wedge between the drive pulley and the deck and clamping on some molegrips so the pulley did not go round when undoing the nut at the bottom other wise the motor turns, Undo the nut anticlockwise as usual. The pulley assembly then drops down so you can remove the drive belt

How to remove impeller from motor to replace. I 've removed all the bolts but can't remove the impeller from the shaft.

If it's a separate shaft, it requires a puller tool, but first you have to remove a nut that holds the impeller to the shaft. If the shaft is part of the impeller, meaning that it is a one piece fabrication, then there is nothing you can do about it. You haven't even stated where does this impeller come from, a washing machine, a water pump, etc.
