Try to slide the little switch on the side of the card in the other direction. That switch is like a write protect for the card. Good Luck.

SOURCE: cannot select "camera menu" from the Top Menu

If the camera is in Auto mode those items cannot be selected because the camera is already using factory default settings and they cannot be changed, If you press the Ok button and change to P mode then you will be able to access all of those menu settings and make any changes you wish to the camera settings.

SOURCE: No matter what button I push on the Rebel XS EOS,

What shooting mode are you in? In manual, the camera leaves most everything to you. In full auto, the camera does everything. Try some of the other modes to see if they offer the functions you want.

SOURCE: I try to focus and

Yes there are two zones of selection on the mode dial. one is basic zone (in which you have potrait, landscape, closeup, sports, night portrait & flash off) these are fully automatic modes and the camera does every thing for you you cannot change the focus. you can zoom out and zoom in and when u see in the view finder the picture is blur. then press the shutter button halfway the camera automatically zooms in or out for the correct focal lenght. only in creative zone you can do it. like programe ae , shutter priority , aperture priority , manual exposure. Hope this solves your problem. Prashanth.

What is the meaning of this function is not selectable in the current shooting mode?

It means that the shooting mode you have selected does not work with this function.
You need to change the shooting mode to select the function you want to use.
For example if you select an automatic mode you may not be able to change the shutter speed or aperture setting.

Unable to actually see the photo in progress in the lcd!

I suppose you are referring to EOS XSi.
Hit the menu button
Go to the fifth menu, and choose the "Live View function settings"
On "Live Viwe shoot." select "Enable" option"
Go back to shooting modes.
The option works only with non automatic modes.
Hit the "SET" button each time you want to see the current picture in the screen, instead through the viewfinder.
Set to MF on the lens switch "AF-MF"

Please let me now if it works.

“Shoot and Select” Modes

e “shoot and select” modes allows you to select an image out of a sequence of still pictures you have taken by depressing the shutter button and storing it. This is best for shooting moving objects. SHOOT & SELECT 1: Shoots a rapid succession of 4 still pictures by keeping the shutter button pressed. SHOOT & SELECT 2: Shoots a succession of still pictures by keeping the shutter button pressed. The Stylus 500 will continue to shoot until you take your finger off the shutter button or until the card is full. After shooting, you will have the option to immediately delete the pictures you do not wish to keep.
