Hi Guys, thanks for your suggestions. I took an easy/cheap route to solving the problem. I bought a Netgear wireless USB adaptor for next to nothing and I now have excellent wifi reception I had already downloaded the latest ASUS wireless driver adaptor, so my logic tells me that the installed wireless adaptor must be faulty.

It's may be the laptops Antenna? Wire broken, pinched, damage, connection loose. The Antenna is usually behind the monitor, wires run from the wireless adapter through the hinges and attach to the antenna, Maybe a loose connection on the Wireless adapter itself? Sometimes you can access through a bay door on the bottom of the laptop, sometimes you have to disassemble the laptop/keyboard, depends on the Asus Model. Have you connected a Ethernet cable?

SOURCE: cannot connect to wifi from

Could be a variety of reasons.
Assuming you have not had it working before
Assuming the wifi is broadcasting it SSID
Assuming you have laptop connected by ethernet cable to hub:

Assuming you have XP:

Go to start/control panel/network connections/right click the wireless lan icon and select properties/select wireless connections and delete ALL previous entries.

With Vista go:start globe then

Control Panel\Network and Sharing\Manage Wireless Networks and delete all entries

Now:

press windows key and R
type cmd and enter
type ipconfig and enter
note lower set of figures ie 192.168.0.1
open browser and type in those figures and enter
should now open router firmware
When asked for log in use defaults of admin - admin or admin - password

navigate to wireless security and set encryption to WEP 64bit and create a simple encryption code - save settings

Change broadcast channel to 8

make sure wifi is set to open and not shared

Save all settings, allow hub to reboot and now see what happens

SOURCE: Can I connect my HP PSC1510 to my BT Homehub v1?

yes, you can. I have my printer connect to my hub and my desktop and I can print from my laptop wirelessly.
You will need your all in one connected via a printer or USB cable to a computer AND also connected to your hub. Then, go to the computer that is connected through a cable to the all in one. Your all in one should have some way to configure its IP address. I have my printer configured as 192.168.1.4 and it's plugged into the 4th port of my hub. Check if this works.

SOURCE: my samsung r519 has stopped connecting to the internet

Does the Laptop say it is connected to your wireless router? If not, connect to your router. Maybe the laptop is continuously polling because you keyed the Wireless Network Key/Password in wrong. If it's wrong, it will never connect.

Try disabling the wireless connection, then enable it and see if it connects and lets you out to the internet.

Make sure you are using the same Authentication (None, WEP, WPA, WPA2) as the laptops that you say work.

CONTINUAL DISCONNECTION OF WIRELESS CONNECTION
There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router. 1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locate the wireless router higher up. 2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change the default password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router. 3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply). 4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currently used but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interference with your wireless router from other wireless routers and access points in your area.

Ipod touch losing wifi connection

If you are moving from place to place in the house, there may be dead spots? Are the other devices static? Is it the only device that moves about the house, all the time? Perhaps it's the Apple device, the antenna? Try at another location. Contact Apple, it may be a Known fault, You have heard of the antenna issues with the iPhone 5? If you hold it a certain way, it doesn't connect or will lose a signal.

Its because you are "out of range" you need to get a device that broadcast a stronger signal or reposition it so it provides signal to where you are.

My acer aspire loses its signal randomly then comes back. Other laptops in the house are fine for connection. Any advice in simple terms appreciated as I don't know how to remove acer software for

Have had similar problems with two Gateways that are actually Acer--both two feet away on either side of each other: one or the other will lose connection--so not the units---if move the one not connecting closer (it is 50 feet with 3 walls between it and router) it will then pick up the wireless and work fine--I answer about 300 questions here each week so end up to avoid this in the mud/laundry room where I can depend on the signal and also have a smoke if I want.

May want to as a test move it closer to the router and see if same issue or not.

Does not connect to to wifi connection when wep

My neo v kept losing the WiFi connection after a while, only connecting when I turned off and on the router despite always seeing a high signal.
I changed the router from wep to wpa2, same issue. Then I changed the DNS server in the router from the telefonica default to Google's own, I.e. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Now my phone's WiFi connection is rock solid.
