It appears you have been a victim of software counterfeit, just like message says. Windows cannot find your product number in its valid product keys database.

There are three possibilities:

  • you have purchased illegal Windows XP (you will have to contact Microsoft on resolving this issue),
  • you entered blacklisted product key by mistake (search on Microsoft's site on information how to change your serial number),
  • you intentionally installed pirated Windows XP (FixYa does not provide any feedback to pirates).

if you used a valid key with a valid copy of the software (and the problem still persists), then you need the WGA plugin. You can download it at microsoft website.

How to solve a victim software counterfeiting?

There is no method to solve this thing. When you use fake serial or use any crack/patch on your microsoft installation, it gets detected by online resources of microsoft during online activities.

You should try to reinstall your windows, but then, next time while updating, checkoff the update I'm mentioning below. The following update of windows checks genuine software so better not to install them.

  • Update for Windows 7 (KB971033)
  • Download size: 1.2 MB
  • Update type: Important
  • This update to Windows Activation Technologies detects activation exploits and tampering to key Windows system files. These exploits try to bypass regular Windows activation and are sometimes included within counterfeit copies of Windows.

I am victim of counterfeiting genuine microsoft software

Often this issue can come from an infected computer. I have been in touch with Microsoft since I knew the computer I was working on was legitimate Windows. They advised me to re-install the operating system from the restore media.

Hope this helps.

I downloaded ''Blurb'' - picture book making and got a virus

I don't know what a "Blurb"is, but to try to remove a virus, try a few standalone scanners since Panda seems not to be able to do it-- download and run-- or if they dont't work, try Avira, a very good free antivirus, which i've listed last below. Between the 2-3 of these, you'll have a good change to identify and remove your problem.

McAfee Stinger(free)

Spybot (free)
