I have an Acer laptop with windows XP and I tried to install Sprint Smartview and at the end of the installation a New hardware install window comes up telling me that the Data interface software is missing and it wont regonize the device.

Download and install Sprint's SmartView. Select the download for your computer's operating system. Follow the installation wizard's prompts to properly install SmartView. The aircard should be connected to the computer during installation.
Restart the computer. Leave the aircard connected during the restart.
Double-click on the Sprint SmartView icon on the desktop.
Wait for the program to initialize and recognize the aircard, then click "Connect." Sprint SmartView should activate the aircard automatically.
did you accept terms and conditions? all sprint smartview is is a program that allows you to use your phone for internet right? i think all you gotta do is plug in your usb cord to your phone and the computer and it should work.
Try uninstalling the smartview software to see if network connections and the print spooler are working with the aircard. If that doesn't work then remove the aircard and reinstall it. Test the connections and print spooler again. The procedure works to reset the components. Finally, if that works, then install the smartview software and retest the connections and spooler. Hopefully your system will repond favorably to the above procedure.

Smartview is supposed to work with Vista. Did you right-click on the install file and run as administrator?
If you can not get it to work there is a work around.
First, download and install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software. After installation, plug in your BlackBerry and start
up the software for the first time. Open the Options -> Connection
Settings… window and set the connection to USB. Plug in the BlackBerry,
enter your password if applicable, and Vista will find the device and
install a “standard modem”.
Open the Control Panel
Network and Internet
Connect to a network
Set up a connection or network
Set up a dial-up connection
Select Standard Modem
Dial-up phone number is #777 Connect.
Everything should work, some have reported faster speeds using this method over the Smartview program.
You stated this is a floor model,is it under warranty.If it is, take it back to let their IT dept. to work on it.This isn't a normal problem and It may just be a coincidence that you installed a program and the laptop shut down. I've never seen a program shut a computer down and not start up again. You may have had a couple of things that happened.First do you have internet security installed. Was the sprint software install from a disc or off the internet. If you downloaded the software from the internet without security software...AVG Norton,nod32 whatever... there's a chance that you downloaded a virus and that's what has caused the problem.If that's not the case...you may have got a bad HD. It's possible for that to have happened. Anyway I hope this was a little helpful. Again if it's under warranty take it back in that's why you buy new.
be sure to completely remove any programs having to do with sprint smartview reboot computer and then plug the air card in the computer and run the setup from the pop up window that states new device found reinstall the smartview connection manager through the preinstalled drivers located in the device itself then after installation is complete reboot and then connect issue is fixed
