Question about Yaesu FT-857D transceiver
It sounds as if there is a loose connection. All other bands are O/K
The fact that the other bands are clear, means that on 40 mts there may or may not be a bug, remember than HF is affected by atmospheric conditions, so it may not be your radio at fault just bad atmospherics on a particular band.
Solar activity plays an important role here to.
Anyway, if this is all confusing to you, may I suggest the following:
Join yahoo group SPECIFIC to your radio Make/Model, there expertise in such matters will be a joy to you, plus you can download manuals, schematics, software and other goodies for your radio.
Yaesu is a very reliable brand and amateurs around the world use these radio for their day to day workings, just like you do.
