Question about Pelonis HC-461 Ceramic Heater

Open Question

Pelonis HC-461 Ceramic Heater works, but then stops putting out

Everything seems to be fine with the heater: it runs fine for a few seconds, but then it stops. The safety interlock seems to be malfunctioning. Since the heater is trash anyway, I just want to know how to identify the anti-tilt switch and the overheat switch. If it is one of those, I could defeat each and see if that solves the problem.

The heater runs for a period of time then quits like it is over heated. After a short peroid of time it can be restarted, but then it runs for a period of time and shuts off again.

This is exactly what's "wrong" with my Pelonis V, (hc-461) disc furnace. It turns on fine, the fan comes up to speed, green light on, heat great, then, the fan begins to slow, a small click is heard, the red light comes on, the heat is shut off, and the fan runs at slow, blowing only cold air.

Anyone know a fix... other than sending it to Pelonis, which I read, is a nightmare?

SOURCE: Pelonis heater does not heat

Hi, Have you checked to make sure that there is power at the outlet you are plugged into? I have looked up some information on this heater and it is in the top 5 oil filled heaters. I do know this, they are maintainence free. They are sealed and no place to fill will oil as the oil is heated to a certain temperature and not enough to burn the oil, so they never have to be filled. Anyway, check for power, and if you have power, check the cord over for any damage. If you can't find anything, you have a internal problem with the control on this heater. This is something you may want to take in to a appliance repair store and have checked out. There is no fuse to replace, so I would say a problem in the circuitry. There is not much for me to walk you through other then what I have mentioned, that it is getting power and cord is good. Please keep me posted.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7

I would definitly try to give your heater a through cleaning before before giving up on it. Remove screws that hold back cover on and remove cover. There shoulb be a fiter directly behind it,remove it and give it a through cleaning. I don't know on the new ones if the filter is made of foam material, the older ones like mine are.It is safe to wash them in warm water and a little dish soap. Rinse fully and pat dry. Clean any lint, hair, dust or any other foreign material from fan motor. Blow it out with compressed air if you can. You can use a tooth brush to clean around motor shaft and air ports on motor. You can use a couple of drops of fine grade machine oil on motor shaft, such as 3 in 1 oil or WD-40. Wipe off excess. Lightly brush heating elements and reassemble. I hope this works for you. Thanks We had our first pelonis disc heater for twenty years.

Pelonis heaters generally have safety devices built in to them for if they fall over and such. This model may have other safety devices, I would check it out in the manual. If its completely dead in the camper, there could be a problem with the outlet in the camper.
