Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+
It is a 3585P
Someone in your area may have a Chamberlain Elite that is interfering with yours. Also, people with dishonest intentions may be working your neighborhood trying to find an easy way in for a visit. If you can do it, try changing your code but don't be surprised if the problems continue

The most common cause of this problem is a bad wall control the wiring going to it. You can eliminate both temporarily by removing the wire at terminal 1 on the back of the motor unit. The wiring sometimes is shorted by the staples the installer uses. The wall control gets used a lot.

Doors (and whole houses) expand and contract with temperature. Check to make sure your photo-eyes (they are not lasers) are cleaned of spider webs, dirt, etc. Disconnect your door from your opener and make sure that it runs smoothly by hand. Make sure all fasteners are tight and lubricate hinges and rollers with a light household oil. (NOT WD40-it is a degreaser and will ruin the grease pack in your rollers eventually) Does the door only reverse during certain parts of the day when the weather is cold? The sun, during different parts of the year in either the evening or morning may be blocking the photo eyes for a brief period of time each day. If the problem is due to the temperature related expansion of the door or jambs(the house), then adjust your down (or up) sensitivity(or force) so the opener pushes harder to close(or pulls harder to open) the door. Do this in very small increments so that minimal force is used to push on the door, otherwise you may cause damage or injury. Remember to back off on the sensitivity when the weather warms. Never play with the springs or cables of the door or anything connected to them. They are under high tension and you will get hurt.

On the side of the motor unit you will find the 'down limit control'. Using a small screwdriver turn this control in the same direction as the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking may be necessary to get it just right.

If the main light flashes 10 times you have a door sensor problem. Make sure the small light on each sensor is on and not flashing. Tweak them if necessary. If the main light does not flash then you can try increasing the down force just a bit. This is a control on the side of the motor unit where the small gray antenna hangs. If this doesn't work you probably have a bad IR sensor which is a small printed circuit board just in front of the motor.
