This sounds like motor and/or roller bearing/busings squeaking.

Remove front and lubricate all shafts/bearings/bushings in the belt path.

Here's some info on how to get it open.

SOURCE: drum roller is bad. How do I access it?

1st remove the door by removing the 2 screws on the hnges 1 on each hinge. Lift the door off and set aside. Then where the door closes you will see 2 more screws. Remove these and you can then pull the front panel off and set aside. Now you will have to use 5/16 nut driver or socket to dissassemble the rest to get back to the rollers. Good luck but 1st send the wife shopping so ya'll don't argue. Just kidding. Good luck and don't forget, take your time and don't get frustrated. you can do this job.

Testimonial: "Thanks so much. Nowhere else mentioned the door screws. It wasn't the rollers, but the drum slides on the front panel; belt was bad, too. Simple fix!"

I have a Maytag Electric Dryer when I press the start button its starts up with a rumbing noise then about 10 secs. later some kicks in or ignites. Could you please telll me what the problem could be. And...

the rumbling noise you hear is the drum starting to turn,, if you have a loose or damaged belt the noise could be higher in volume than normal,, the igniting is also a normal thing you can look here to see a little bit on how a belt is checked and changed with diagrams http://repair2000.com/wpoolbelt.htm to open a Maytag do this There are two spring catches located just below the cabinet top that secure it to the rest of the unit. These catches are located towards each side edge. Use a putty knife (or some other thin and flat object) to slide in under the cabinet top to disengage each of the clips. You can now lift up the cabinet top.
With the cabinet top lifted, you will see two screws located inside the top of the cabinet front. Remove each of these screws and lift the front panel to disengage the two clips found at the bottom. As you remove the front panel, disconnect the door switch and any other wiring, taking careful note of which wires are to be reconnected where.

Grinding noise.

Typically, on the Maytag Neptune dryers, it is the felt gasket that is the cause and source of the noise you're hearing.

There is a felt gasket that runs all around the front and rear of the dryer drum and cabinet door edge (on the backside lip). As the dryer ages, this felt wears out and needs to be replaced to prevent the awful screeching sounds you'll experience, once the metal to metal contact becomes constant.

You can view the parts that need replacing at the following link (Item #14 on the drawing)

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getSubComp.pd?modelNumber=MDG5500AWW&productCategoryId=0151200&brandId=3048&brandDescription=MAYTAG&modelName=RESIDENTIAL-DRYER&diagramPageId=00006&componentDescription=TUMBLER&documentId=M0608072&blt=06

This was a fairly common problem with the Neptune line. You can see for yourself by simply turning the drum with your hand and feeling and listening for the rubbing/grinding noise, along the top of the door opening.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Maytag dryer MDE9316AYW - while running makes a high pitch noise. Becomes softer as clothes get dryer. I assume this is because of the load becoming lighter.

This sounds like motor and/or roller bearing/busings squeaking.

Remove front and lubricate all shafts/bearings/bushings in the belt path.

Need to get into dryer to check heating element unit does not heat up all else seems ok model no. MDE9316AYW 5600 watts...help rubenandyolie

Check the house electrical panel dryer breakers (pair), push OFF, then ON. If breakers trip again, problem is a short inside the dryer. Pull the power plug from the socket. The top must be opened which allows access to front panel screws from inside. Lift the panel and pull away from cabinet. Disconnect the wiring to door switch and light. Make a diagram of wiring colors and where they went. Uncouple the drive belt from the motor--go through a sub-panel in the back and release a large tension spring from the idler pulley, then remove belt from motor. Remove several screws from inside of drum center, then lift the drum from the case. The heating element(s) are mounted in back of the drum on a supporting wall. Look for any burned areas or wires that touch the surrounding metal. On reassembly, check the condition of the drum belt--any cracks or missing pieces--replace the belt now.

Scraping sound on left side as it goes around

You need to replace the tumbler guide rubber wheel. I would suggest to avoid further issues, replace all base guides.

It requires dismantling the Dryer.
