Re: computer sound not working
Ah, try the FN key and holding i down then quickly pressing the end key without releasing fn, then release them.
i have an inspiron laptop computer too just an older version so this might not work, if it doesnt go to control panel, sounds, audio and etc. then go to "Adjust System volume" or one of the other ones under "Sound" which are already up when you click onto that

Hi, the best "option is to perform a System Restore," select from Control Panel or the "Accessories (System Tools) in the "All Programs," Start Menu. Select the (Date of recovery prior to the change); at least a day before to make sure the "Restore" will not miss any changes on the day of the change. Follow all the instructions "carefully," be patient, and "DO NOT RUN!" any programs during or after the System Restore is complete! The computer will "restart," system restore is still making corrections. "I Hope for the best, rating the solution is appreciated, thanks.
I'm confused. A Codec is used in an audio player like Media Player 11. If your computer has no sound when it comes on then you need a driver. I looked up your model and found a Realtek driver speciafically for your machine. You can download this at: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNS460. If you need an Audio CODEC for your media player I would suggest downloading PowerDVD from download.com to insure that your system sound is working correctly then you can use the Microsoft CODEC installation package to determine the real missing CODEC.

You may have to install or update drivers Most of the
drivers/software I get are from a web site driverguide.com you need to fill out
a free registration then search for the driver you need download it in a format
you can use install it and then most times reboot the computer
