May have an article of clothing stuck between drums

When I removed the back panel to tackle the F51 code, I noticed something dark (possible article of clothing) between the outer plastic drum and the inner metal drum. Is there suppossed to be something between the drums or is this a lost piece of clothing. I don't want to retrieve it if it is factory installed. Thank you.

Yes, it was a piece of clothing, and I was able to retrieve it quite easily. Thanks. Regarding the F51 code, I followed some advice I found and was able to handle it myself. In my case it appeared to be a loose connection at the motor. I tipped back the machine, removed the motor assembly and reconnected anything and everything I could find. I then did the same to the upper control panels for good measure, and everything is working fine. Thank you for the help.

Possible that ther is a piece of clothing, if you can "pop" the top and tilt the top back, you can then unsnap the upper tub ring cover, that tub "floats in the unit so you can lift it right out. as far as the f51 what was the result on that?? thas usually requires replacing trhe "rps" sensor and main control board, id call whirplool depending on age for that matter

Washer fills and washes clothes but water doesnt drain and go into spin it just sounds like its still pumping out and no error code

Quite possibly there may be something stuck between the pump and the drum which is preventing the water from draining down into the pump. The pump is still working but there is no water to pump out, and the machine can't advance until the water is gone and the pressure on the pressure switch is relieved.
You will have to manually empty the machine and then remove the offending article from the tub to pump hose.

Did you inspect the area around the drum? You have to take the top off to do that. Then there is a water sensor on the left side. The error that you get is from the drum speed sensor.

What does F 51 mean?

The F51 fault code on your Cabrio washer indicates that the control board is not sensing the proper drive motor spin. To clear the fault code, press the Pause/Cancel button.

Make sure that the drain hose is not stuck way down the stand pipe. This can cause siphoning of fill water which will inhibit proper motor rotation.

Check to see if the wash basket spins freely. If it does not, you may have an item of clothing stuck between the outer tub and the inner basket. This restriction in rotation will also cause an F51 fault code.

If these tips do not help you resolve the F51 problem, then you probably have a component failure. Possible failures include: wire harness or wire connection problem between the machine control and the RPS sensor (Rotor Position Sensor), a failed RPS sensor, a failed drive motor, and a failed machine control board.

The drum on my Hotpoint WMA454 appears to be jammed, it only moves a small distance without resistance. The belt is attached and ok and there is no noise as if it is the bearings, just won't move.

What you have probably got is an article of clothing that has found its way in between the two drums. Remove the belt without forcing it then carefully retry and rotate the drum. If spungy, yes something is stuck between the drums. Shortest possible way to remove the obstruction is to remove the heating element and carefully look into the hole once element is out. 90% of the time the clothing is jambed around the element. Use long nosed pliers or a wire with a hook and remove. Retry and turn drum. If free to rotate, replace element and retry once all is assembled.

The drum will not spin because something is stuck between it and the outside

Sometimes the water heater guard plate can come adrift and cause this or some article of clothing has jammed behind the back of the drum and forced between the tub and the front door gasket.
It could also be a siezed tub back bearing..
Sorry

How to split the outer plastic drum on hotpoint washi theres something stuck between the outer and rotating drum

Unless you can see actual screws securing the 2 drum halves together, then it is not possible to seperate the drum.
More recent models have a one piece moulding which makes it impossible to seperate.
If it has screws, then the whole intrior of washer has to be removed complete, a difficult job, unless you know what you are doing.
Best way to tackle the problem, is to remove the lower rear panel of washer , remove large black hose on bottom of drum, and have feel around from the bottom of drum, and see if you can locate the item that way.
Hope this helps with your problem.

My Whirlpool Duet is eating small articles of clothing!

Okay...first of all, the "F02" error code is a Long Drain error. This is usually caused by debris clogging the drain pump. There is a drain reservoir that needs to be cleaned out periodically. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r615268-f02_error_code_whirlpool_duet_kenmore

Keep in mind, it does not take much to damage these small drain pumps. If anything has been left in the pump for a significant period of time, it can damage the pump motor or impeller. The result: a drain pump that "appears" to be running, but may not be pumping anything. If the error code returns, you may have to replace the drain pump.

The socks getting lodged in the rubber door boot can be a common problem. Well...I should say, its not uncommon for this to happen. Due to the design of the rubber folds in the door boot, it can often collect small items. Sixteen socks is not a new record. I found over 20 one time! This rubber door boot must be inspected after EACH wash load to ensure items do not get stuck there. This can result in articles of clothing beginning to mildew and smell over a period of time as well. There are also small drain holes in the folds that help drain away some of the residual water. If these holes become clogged, water will stand in this area and begin to smell. The following link explains the recommended steps to keep this area clean:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r513372-front_loader_mildew_odor

In addition, it is not unheard of to have small articles of clothing (such as socks, underwear and wash cloths) to manage to work their way between the inner spin basket (stainless steel tub) and the outer tub shell and get lodged in the drain hose. I would recommend you inspect the drain hose that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the inlet side of the drain pump for obstructions as well. I have found wash cloths stuck in this hose that prevented the tub from draining. For future reference, use garment bags for washing small items. This will prevent some of the problems from reoccuring.

I hope you find this information helpful. Let me know if you require additional assistance.

Dark Spots on clothes

There may be some pieces of mat stuck between the inner and outer drums. The quickest way to remove this is to remove the drain hose that leads from the drum to the pump and feel around the bottom of the outer drum and remove any foreign objects that may be stuck in there.
