Question about Logitech Harmony 550 Remote Control

How do you replace the Infrared LED's in a Harmony 550 Remote?

My Harmony 550 remote has stopped working. It lights up and everything shows correctly on the screen and if I select one of the activities it seems to go through the motions, but the devices never respond not matter how close I get or how new the batteries are. I've gone through the Logitech support site and have found that the most likely cause is that my Infrared LED's have gone bad and I have replacement components for it, but I don't know how to go about installing them. I do understand that it involves soldering and I do have the equipment for it, but I just want to be sure I know what I'm doing before tampering with my expensive remote...but hey, what can I lose at this point?

To replace it you have to open your remote control. As you can see, it is located at the front of the remote control. In most cases, the fault occurs to this is a loose solder terminal at its connection to inside printed circuit board. Just check this, before you replace it. Failure to this infrared LED is rare. Normal cause will be as said above. If a resoldering do not help you, replace it. It is a cheap to buy component, and can be bought from most of the electronic spare part shops at your town. To get more details about, how to check a remote control, check this link. It will help you to know how to check a remote control, clean it, and replace parts.

SOURCE: remote appears frozen

I got the same issue with mine, and hooking to the computer and upgrading the firmware worked for me. I first had to take the bateries out and let it sit for 24 hours so it would loose the codes inside. No problems after that.

SOURCE: my remote for the harmony 550 says welcome to

First I would check to see if any of your buttons are sticking. I have found that this is a common problem with the 550 remote. I really like this remote but if nothing works check your buttons to see if any are pressed under the plastic. This remote can only work one button at a time so if one is being pressed it will not work.

SOURCE: The screen on my logitech harmony 1000 remote goes white.

I would advise you do a firmware update. With anything, if you can remove the batteries and get it to work, the firmware is usually the fix that will resolve the issue. If you dont know how to do a firmware update, just look at the link below!

SOURCE: Harmony 550 quit responding as I watched a blu-ray movie.

Hi. The 'Welcome to Your Remote' messageon a H550 means that there is a button that is stuck down on the remote.

1. Take out the battery, and push in and massage each button to ensure it is not stuck down.

2. Put the battery back in, update the firmware. To do this, log in to the software, click 'Downloads' at the top and 'Firmware'

3. Update the remote.

That should get the remote working! :)

Hi.

Perhaps you do not already have the Harmony software installed on your PC?
If not, it's on the CD and you will need the USB cable to connect the remote to PC, but that comes much later after you have constructed a configuration on your Logitec account. Then the 550 should certainly be able to show more than just the welcome message.

You don't really need the CD because you might as well download the latest software version from the Logitec website for 550, install it on PC, and get the full instructions there.

Next register using the software on PC and check that you have the the latest firmware according to the instruction manual. The on-screen guide on PC will lead you through making a configuration for your devices.

Regards
Chas

Harmony 550 remote - buttons not working

Hey!

Unfortunately most things you need to do would require access to the Harmony Remote Software. However, the only advise I would have is for you to remove the batteries and try putting them back in.

Sorry I couldnt be more helpful...
