Z-2200, Left Channel Stopped Working

Hi, and thank you in advance for reading :)

I've had my logitech z-2200 for about 4 years now. Suddenly the other night the left speaker stopped working. I found out that, theres nothing wrong with the satellite speakers, but the output for left channel that is coming out of my sub, isn't working.

Any idea, what went wrong or how much I'd be looking at, if I was to take it to a repairing shop?

The exact same thing has happened to me,, the left channel just stopped working. I am in process of changing the audio amplifier chip for the left channel a TDA 7296. Its a fairly inexpensive gamble at less then 5 bucks for the chip. It is fairly complicated amplifier chip with a built in mute, standby and thermal shutdown protection features in the chip so it is possible any of that has gone haywire the chip would not output properly if so. Also found on the same channel a small choke a three turn coil that was dislodged when they added silicon to the board and it pulled the choke lead right off the board. I would presume this alone would not be the problem but could have lead to the amplifier going bad if it truly is.
Evertyhing else on the main board seems to test well and nothing is standing out as a problem. Rollin the dice. Waiting for a chip in the mail,,, time will tell.

Hi, the crackling is mostly a result from dust and debris building up on the contacts of the volume knob over the years.
You could try taking some compressed air to the space between the knob and the pod.

Sometimes with the power off rotating the knobs from end to end will also help.

Left speaker blown or melted?

This isn't usually in the satellite speakers. The amplifier is usually in the sub and these have a bad habbit of blowing/burning up. Return or replace. Pretty common in this model.

You could test the speakers on another computer or another type of player.
As for testing the speaker itself you might want to open them up and look for rust.. Moisture could have gotten inside and ruined them.
That is the best that I can do.

Left Speaker Problem

Sounds like the left channel in the built-in amplifier went out or possibly damage in the connector or cabling. Quick test to eliminate the PC is to connect another set of working speakers or headphones into the PC speaker jack without making any changes. If it works w/o problems then it?s the speakers. You can try plugging the speakers back into your PC and while playing something start wiggling the left channel cables and the main cable that goes into the PC. In particular pay attention to stress points like connectors. If that turns up nothing and you have the appropriate tools and skills you can open the speakers up and test out the solder points for the cables as well. As always make sure your warranty has expired completely before you open them up or start cutting away. Let us know if you have any other questions and please don?t forget to rate this post.
