Hi. The issue is probably because 17922 is only part of the model number. Your missing the prefex 385 which makes this model number actually a 385.17922. All Kenmores have a prefex before the actual model number. Other prefixes were 117 , 158 .
Hope this helps .

Kenmore sewing maching model 17922 seizing up. I have oiled it and cleaned it but it still will not work. Suggestions? It was working fine, then just stopped.

Depends with what and where it was oiled. Use only fresh good quality sewing machine oil--NOT 3-in-1, WD-40, cooking oil, or grandma's old stinky brown sewing machine oil.

When a machine has seized, I prefer using liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube (hardware store or bike shop). Open the top, side over the needle bar, and the bobbin area. Gently wiggle the handwheel and apply 1-2 drops each place where metal rubs on metal. Do NOT oil belts, synthetic gears, cams. Then direct hot air from a handheld hairdryer into the internal mechanisam. Get the metal parts hot. If it still doesn't move freely, repeat. Avoid over oiling as the result is you will be spending a lot of time mopping up the excess.

In the future, oil the shuttle/hook every 8 hours of sewing, do a light all-over oiling (as described above) every 40 hours of sewing, or every six months if the machine is in storage or not in regular use.

I have an old Singer Treadle Sewing Machine but do not know where to locate the serial number to help find the value. Where should it be located?

Hard to say. Serial numbers can be found almost anywhere. Sometimes they are stamped in the metal of the base, maybe under the machine. Check the edge of the base if it is installed in a cabinet. Machines like this usually have only a serial number, no model number. The serial number will designate the model number on this list:

Singer Sewing Machine Company Serial Numbers

Don't expect it to be worth a whole lot of money. Most of the time, their biggest value is to the owner who can continue to use these awesome machines for many years yet.

6440 husqvarna sewing machine needs repair and replacement parts are difficult to acquire. where to get repair?

Try here http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/viking-6440-sewing-machine-parts.aspx

If your needed part isn't available there... The only hope in that case is to find another Husky of the same model and use one or the other as a parts machine. (or part out your Husky and buy something else with the earnings..... just don't buy new plastic ones)

Sewing machine electrical problem

Improve the FixYa experience for everyone by voting.

You have cooked your motor. Someone should have told you to bring a converter since most former British Colonies operate on the European 220 volt, 50Hz system.

I've spent a lot of time in West and East Africa and discovered that there is always a local craftsman who can do such things as rewire a motor, convert it to 220, or even sell you a converter.

The alternative is to purchase a new motor from Kenmore and have it installed locally if you don't want to do it yourself.

All the best and thanks for all of good work

I have a Kenmore Sewing Machine (old) Model E-6354 that was given to me but it doesn't have a manual so I don't know how to thread it or operate it.

Hi. I tried looking for your manual but am having a problem with that model number. Kenmore model numbers begin with three numbers (like 117 or 385), then a dot, then four (or more) numbers, like 117.1234. But here's a link to a group that specializes in older Kenmores like yours and they should be able to help. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vintagekenmoressew/

I really love old sewing machines and am really glad to see them used and loved.

Happy Sewing!
