Need to replace keyboard on acer travelmate 8204 laptop

My baby has spilt something into my keyboard and the spacebar, ALT, and Windows keys are sticking, and intermittently not working. I've seen a keyboard part advertised for £19.99 ... but I need some guidance on how to remove my faulty keyboard and replace it with the new one. Thanks.

You don't need any drivers. Laptops and desktops use an internal win device driver. You can actually find the file called keyboard.sys

What you need in your case in a new keyboard. For your Travelmate they sell for about $50. It takes maybe 10 minutes to change it out. This is something you can do at home. How can i remove my laptop keyboard

These instructions will help you to remove and replace keyboards onvarious laptops. I will not be able to cover all models but you’ll getthe idea. Steps for removing and replacing the keyboard are similar formost laptops.
- if your laptop is still covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, do not open the case or you can loose the warranty
- always remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter before you open the laptop case
- if you damage the keyboard connector on the motherboard you’ll have to replace the whole motherboard
- proceed on your own risk

Be careful, on some models the bezel might be connected to themotherboard as it shown on the picture above. If you accidentallypulled the cable, connect it back. It is not necessary to disconnectthe keyboard bezel from the motherboard in order to remove and replacethe keyboard, just put it aside so you can access the keyboard screws.

Use this link below for more instructions.

Good luck!

Can't refit space bar & alt Gr keys to Acer Extensa 4620

Removing the keys can sometimes damage the very small retaining clips then it won't clip back in place.
You can get replacement keyboards on the Internet, I've bought keyboards for approx. US$20 from the USA. The keyboard is easy to remove and replace, no need to get a techo to do it.

Keyboard problem

Does the ctl alt del work if you try then during the early part of the start up process, before Windows loads? If they do then I would suspect a problem with Windows as a result of your previous infection OR perhaps you are still infected with something. You can easily eliminate most infections by running complete hard drive scans using virus, spyware and root-kit scanners. I would suggest trying AVG?s free versions of each which can be downloaded here: If the ctl alt del key sequence does not work during the boot process you may just have a keyboard that is going bad. Of the 20 plus laptop keyboards that have I have replaced over the years only two were due to physical damage. The rest just developed bad keys, usually clustered together and usually getting worse over time. Here is a link to a keyboard tester program. This should confirm if the keys are bad: Let us know if you have any other questions and don?t forget to rate this post.
