Hello Donna,
if you install a third-party anti-virus/anti-spyware software, Windows Defender turns off automatically by itself. So, before turning on Windows Defender, please be sure that you have completely uninstalled the other anti-virus solution from your computer. Now, get your computer restarted and Defender will be turned on by itself.

After restarting if Defender does not turn on automatically, go to Start menu, type Windows Defender and press enter to execute Windows Defender. If the status shows that you have to turn it on manually, do so and you are done.

Please let us know and we are here to help you!

Regards, Mrityunjay.

I believe it is part of MS Security Essentials, and no longer stand alone in 8.

Defender seems to be turned off and hidden i cant find it to turn it on but my pc say's it is still installed

Yes Defender is automatically installed with Windows 8/ 8.1 versions. Go to the SEARCH command and type Defender in the command line. It will appear and from there execute the option and it will start. You can PIN that to the lower bar if you wish.

Sir pl tl me that whch antivirus is suitable for window 8

Windows 8 includes an automatically loaded updated version of Windows Defender
which is a full antivirus based on Microsoft Security Essentials.
(Windows Defender
for XP, Vista, and Windows 7 was only antispyware.)
So if you upgrade the protection
is automatic and is on by default at installation.

Buy Windows 8 Activation Key 64bit 32bit

I want to thank Sara here, she has won my business and I'll be posting my experience to you and others.
My old computer crashed days ago. I had to buy a new computer. It costed me much.
My budget was not much. To purchase a Windows 10 Education Product Key from MS was not enough. Then I went to Tomshardware, and one guy recommended http://www.Genuinewindowkey.com/ to me. Their price did attract me. So I decided to try after several emails to Sara. She was very patient and answered clearly to all my questions. I receved the key immediately after I sent 35 bucks. It worked perfectly. I was very very satisfied.
I'll be buying from http://www.Genuinewindowkey.com/ from now on as well.

There seems to a problem with your win defender turn off defender and try to install the anti virus software as when you have one anti virus or a firewall running it will not allow another anti virus to be installed. Also check if you have any other anti virus installed
