Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Radiators go cold after cooking programme ends

We have just moved into a house with an oil-fired rayburn. We have set up programmes for the heating and cooker. It works fine until the cooker programme finishes when the radiators all cool down and don't come back on even though the heating is technically on. Even the override command can't get the radiators back on

Hi the cylinderstat controls the hot water only not the heating the boiler stat controls the water temp the room theromstat controls the rads , if you have one ,

so boiler stat set on 180f or number 5 cylindersat set on 140f to 120f roomstat to your comfort , the boiler stat works as a over heat so if the cylinder stat or roomsat fail it will turn off on the boiler you should beable to check wiring from that .

Most programmable thermostats have a configuration setting for the type of system you are using. They also normally have a configuration setting for the Heating Cycle Rate, Assuming it is wired correctly, I suspect the problem might be somewhere in one or both of those two configuration settings. Let me know what you find or if you have any further questions. :-)

If the room is at the set temperature even when the rad are warm the boiler is doing its job. It takes steel rads up to an hour to cool down so if they stay warm to the touch that is normal. It takes steel rads a long time to heat up when they get cold so its cheaper to let them not get real cold.I was told not to put a programmable thermostat on our boiler simply because it takes a lot of gas to bring your house up even two degrees. I run a non programmable and set our heat at 72 degrees and do not touch it all winter. There should be a water shut off on each rad so if you want your bedroom cooler just shut that shut off on that rad off.
