Webcam is occupied by another application

When I try to setup or use the built in camera in Skype or Yahoo I get a message that the camera is occupied by another application, I get the same message when I try to use the Toshiba webcam application. I looked thoroughly over the web and found no useful solutions. I reinstalled webcam driver, I uninstalled all instant messaging software even I uninstalled the pre-installed windows life bundle provided with the original OS (Windows 7 home premium). the funny thing is that I tried to use the web-cam log in feature by Toshiba (which enables to login to windows after configuring the face image), and camera turned on and I was able to complete the configuration (which means that the hardware is OK, and something wrong with the software on the PC). does anyone have any clues?

to clarify... WIndows 7 Home premium 64 bit. is the OS supplied with this laptop, the driver provided by Toshiba tech support is dedicated for Win 7-64bit, Skype version is also preinstalled as a part of the genuine tools suppied. The cam used to work in the past, but after a recent system restoration it stopped.

Problem unsolved... but case is closed. I have recovered the PC to the out-of-the-box state. it was the last option for me.

SOURCE: Camera assistant software not working?

Hi,

If you click Start, Right click My Computer (this may also be on your desktop), click properties, Click the Hardware tab (at the top), click Device Manager, then scroll down to your camera, you can double click it and see if it is disabled. It will also tell you if it thinks the device is working properly on the General tab.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have further questions. Thanks

SOURCE: sony webcam no longer works with windows 7

1. The drivers for this Web camera may not be developed for Windows 7 64 bit by the manufacturer.
You will either have to purchase a new camera to be compatible with Windows 7 or Vista 64.
This is also true for your SD card reader.

Does this tablet work as a webcam

The Built in camera can be made use of as a webcam when using a video messaging software such as Skype, there are plenty of other applications that can also make use of the built in camera as a webcam.

I have a sony vaio with built in web cam and windows 7 but i cant use the web cam . why is that?

Are you using the Sony Webcam companion? If not ou can download the application from Sony Vaio website. ( Sony Web Cam Companion ). If you are trying to use skype or any other video messaging software: Try to check if there are other video chat application running in the background of your computer. Open the system configuration utility (Windows key + R > msconfig ) then go to the Startup Tab. Uncheck all application that is related to video chat and leave the preferred video chat software active (checked). Restart the computer and viola! You can now use your webcam for video chat.
