You can try the convergence first
if you cant converge the lines into one to correct this then you would require service for the convergence stage of your set
this is not a uncommon problem and usualy runs around 280 to 350 to repair unless the dcu is at fault

My tv has a color seporation on the screen, at the top it has a yellow band, and at the bottom it has a blue band. what could the problem be, and what part will i need? thanks kevin.

TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

My 53UWX10B has a picture problem. Picture is blue and yellow and the yellow is offset to one side a couple of inches. Gives a "ghost" image.

If the picture is 3d looking in some way----it is a convergence problem; many of these sets have "magic focus" and if it will not correct the problem the two convergence chips need to be replaced---this model should use either STK-392-110 OR -150 CHIPS.

This can be a do it yourself repair if you have some skill and total parts cost on Ebay would be under 25 dollars.

Let me know your skill level here and I will instruct you how to do the fix.

You have a Convergence circuit failure. Both Convergence IC's probably need to be replaced and possibly a small value resister also is burnt and needs to be replaced. I recommend that a Qualified Service Person come out and verify the failure and give you a estimate. I would estimate around 380.00 to 400.00 for repairs. (This also includes the Service Call fee.)
Hope this helps,

Problems with my Mitsubishi hd1080

If the Blue lines are blurs or shadows, then your Convergence IC's are going or gone bad.
I have the same TV - it will be 4yrs. old in Dec. Mine started with Blue lines & shadows, then Red, Blue, Green Shadows. This is caused from over heating. The Convergence IC's have to be replaced.
I have had 3 TV Repair shops all quote me a price from $350. to $400. to repair. They all said 4 years is the usual life time for these IC's.
Replace the STK932-110amps with STK394-250-E or STK392-150 for greater reliability.
Use only Original Replacement Parts, there are some cheaper but won't last and can't take the heat.
If you are a "do-it-yourselfer" here is a link with the directions and pics.

Half screen looks blurred / doubled.

Hi, convergence circuit has failed, this usually involves two STK 392-xxx Ic`s and sometimes a couple of low Ohm resistors, If you are proficient at soldering and have an accurate voltmeter and a lot of patience you can do this, If you are NOT proficient at soldering call a tech or you WILL make the problem worse, If you decide to go for it e-mail me back and I`ll tell you a good place to get the right stk`s not the cheap chinese crap you`ll find on-line, BMW Rider
