Hi Brian, thank you very much for your help, but I am unfortunately still stuck after all of this! First of all I when I go to universal bus controllers it doesn't give me any errors or yellow or red exclamation or question marks, so I cannot choose to update /reinstall the drivers. When I did get to an option to update it just said that it is up to date. Also when I go to disk management, the usb drive is listed seperately from all the other drives and it states that it has no media and is removable disk. I don't get the same options when I right click on this, so I don't have the option of going to tools. I think the problem might be with my laptop, because this usb drive works perfectly on any other computer. I have a brand new HP ProBook 657b. Any other external harddrive I plug in does work, but no usb flash drives. Any help will be very greatful!

Insert your mini sd into the USB port.
  • Click Start/ My computer/Manage/Disk Management
  • Right click on the partition corresponding to your removable media and select Change Drive Letter and Paths
  • Finally change the drive letter (like W: or Y:). It is very unusual for Windows to use these letters.

insert your flash disk into your computer right click on my computer on the desktop. Go to "Manage". On the left side of the Computer Management window click on Disk Management (under Storage). Then right click on the name of your flash drive (typically called the manufacturer's name, default, or removable media). Click on change drive letter and paths. Then click Change, and choose a drive letter that is not currently in use, any letter . Press OK twice to return to the computer management window, press the X, and you should be back at the desktop and able to access your flash drive

Getting "update.exe - No disk"

This issue occurs when all the following conditions are true:

• You have a removable drive configured as drive letter C.
• You do not have a removable disk in the removable disk drive.

To resolve the issue, use one of the following methods:

Change the drive letter assignment for the removable drive to a letter other than C.

To change the drive letter assignments in Windows 7, follow these steps:

1. Log on to the computer as Administrator.
2. Insert a disk in the removable drive.
3. Click Start, right-click on Computer, and then click Manage.
4. Click Disk Management.
5. Right-click the partition, logical drive, or volume that you want to change, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths.
6. Click the removable drive, click it, click Change, click the drive letter that you want to use, and then click OK.

Wrong removable disk/media letter in My Computer.
Go to Start / Computer management / Disk management / in there check that the first partition on the hard disk is C and none of the other partitions/removable media disks have assigned the C letter. If one of them has it (or none at all) then right click on it / Change Drive Letter and Paths... / Change / select another letter / OK .

When connected by USB cable removable hard disk does not appear in Windos Explorer. However, on other peoples PCs, the disk is visible.

your computer is probably naming it F: or something, but your PC already has a device issued to that letter.

Right-click on 'My Computer', it will open a 'Computer Management' window. On the left side, under 'Storage'.. click on 'Disk Management'. It will show some devices like your c: drive and d: drive.. does it recognize your removable hard drive?... if it does then right-click on it and choose 'Change Drive Letter'. CLick on the 'Change' button and change the drive letter to Q or X or something ...then apply it close the windows... then open Windows Explorer and see if you see your removable hard drive now.

good luck.
