Question about Buffalo Technology Buffalo MiniStation HD-PCT500U2/B 500 GB External USB - Black Hard Drive

1 Answer

Photo viewing problems on the drive

I transferred all my wedding pictures on the hard drive and it took it's time (as it should) once it was done i safely removed it and plugged it back in to verify the photos however the folders turned into "shortcuts". I know that I transferred them well. Documents are fine however any photos I put on it the drive turns them into shortcuts. Please help! We paid a lot of money for it and will not be able to return it since we live abroad. Many thanks in advance

SOURCE: External hard drive not recognized

Some of the externals have mapping issues in Windows.  Although the TB shows in devices, you may need to remap it (right click on My Computer for mapping options) and in some cases, changing the drive letter will fix your problem.  There's really no 1 definitive solution for these.  If you're unable to fix the problem by remapping or changing the drive letter, you can partition the drive to recover your data.  As far as the slow transfer rate goes, almost all externals are formatted in FAT.  This has issues of its own with safely removing devices and slow transfer rates.  I prefer to format my externals and flash drives in NTSF for more reliability.  Best of luck.

What replaces pictureproject with the coolpix L10 ? will nikon view NX2 work for coolpix L10 ?

Picture Project was replaced by Nikon Transfer and Nikon ViewNX2. Both of those programs will work perfectly well with the L10. You can download the current versions of all (free) Nikon software from
http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

Once the pictures are on your computer, you can use View NX2 to look at them and do some editing.

I'm trying to transfer pictures frome Kodak Easy Share to the drive so I can have more space on my internal drive. I also want my music to be transfered. I'm the problem because i am not great at...

If you have your music and pictures on one hard drive, and transfer it to the external hard drive connected by usb:

1) Connect external hard drive

2) Select the files you want to move.

3) Right click on one of them, and choose cut.

4) Go into the external drive, and choose paste. (They will start to move over.

5) To see pictures, you will right click in the picture folder and choose view. Select large icons. That should work. Also you could choose view from the top, and select pictures.
