Checking glow plugs for Ford and Chevy diesel engines

If you need to check glow plugs on a Ford or Chevy Diesel engine, run a hot wire from your battery. un plug the glow plug wire and strike the hot wire to the end of the glow plug. If you get a spark the glow plug is good. you should do this to each one, but one at a time then replace the glow plug wire as you go.

Wiring diagram for glow plugs

The glow plugs are programmed by the ecu, you will have to take it to a dealer who has the ability to change it if possible, the best thing you could do is turn the ignition on and off a couple of times before you start the engine, that should get the glow plugs hot enough to start.

I bought a van 2003 Mercedes mb140 diesel. Is always gone and Also the mechanic gave me the ok. Then i wanted to sue but the light for the engineering start didn't turn on anymore so the engine didn't...

check the glow plug relay / and fuse. if thats ok then you will need a meter on the glow plug wire to see if there is any resistance on the glow plug its self. if the relay is at fault just change it. glow plug has no resistance then it needs changing. if the fuse has blown check the wire loom for the glow plug wires as they can get hot and earth to the engine.

2000 peugeot 306 1.9 diesel smokey on startup and misfiring when cold but is ok after heating up no wAater loss any ideas

change the glow plugs i used to have a 306 and a huge cloud of white smoke come out of the exhaust on start up lol, changed the glow plugs and was clear as a whistle, its because the glow plugs dont get as hot as the others and fires up on the hottest cylinders so if you have two glow plugs out the other two are being forced to turn over hope this helps you ;)

I have a 1994 2.8ltr Diesel (4M40 Mtr), Delica, that conks out

try changing all the heater plugs there are warn out by now,,if it realy dont like starting up on cold days do what i do,,, give it twice the heat up time,,,,,
turn on the kye wate till the heater light go's out then quikly switch it off and turn it back on for a re-heat before trying to start it up,,,also try changing the glow plug heater relay,, it should hold the glow plug heaters on for about 30 seconds after the light has gone off even if the engen has started and is running
but i bet its not doing this? giving twice the heat takes less out the battery than cranking it over and your not wearing out the starter as well?
doing this to my old girl gets her going every time!!!!!
