Question about Homedics Glass Digital Scale - Advanced Computerized 400 Pound Capacity

1 Answer

Err message I have been using the Homedics® Glass Body Fat Scale Health Station? to measure a number of people's body composition, but for one individual we continue to get the "Err" message.  We have dampened her feet, and moved her position, but continuously get this message.  She is 5'2", 59 years old, and about 195 lbs.  She does have small feet, which we thought might affect this.  It works for everyone else - with a lot of different shapes and sizes so it doesn't seem to be a malfunction.

I've had this scale now for 4 months and the ERR message has become more and more frequent. This scale was very expensive ($100) and I can't figure out how to get it to work correctly anymore. I step off and step back on, over and over, moistening my feet every time, nothing seems to work.

The "Err" problem is a very common one but no one so far could predict the reason causing this.It means that there has been an
error in the scale measurement. The only solution mentioned everywhere is to Step off the scale until its LCD screen blanks and Step back on the scale.

On my escali bfbw200 scale it says err 2

First be sure that you are bare foot when using the scale. If you are not making contact with the metal sensors on the scale's platform the scale will read Err 2. The way the scale is able to measure your body fat and body water % is by sending a small, unnoticeable electronic signal through your body. Also, be sure the scale is on a flat, stable, hard surface while in use.

If you are bare foot while using the scale, and you are still receiving an Err 2 message, please fill out the form at this link (http://www.escali.com/index.php?p=warranty) and one of our customer service reps will contact you within approx. 24 hrs with instructions on a fix or replacement.

Questions, contact @escaliscales on twitter or call 1-800-467-6408.

Thank you for choosing an Escali Scale!

What does BIA value of 38% mean?

The BIA is bioelectric impedance analysis or your body fat. BIA is the method used to determine your body fat, it sends a small electric pulse through your body and using formulas that account for the time it takes for the pulse to travel through water, muscle and fat. Remeber that this measurement can be affected by different variables such as water if you have taken a shower or drank a glass of water before being measured so it is not always acurate. To obtain a more accurate measurement I reccomend using it first thing in the morning before showering or eating/drinking when there is less chance of variables. Please let me know if you need further help :) Have a great day!

Body fat scale Question

Like all body fat tests, body fat scales don't actually measure your body fat percentage. They determine your body density. The examiner (or the scales) then uses a formula to calculate body fat percentage based on body density. These formulas just predict your body fat. Unfortunately there is no one formula that accurately predicts body fat for the whole population. Differences in age, gender, ethnicity, body size, and fitness level all have a significant affect on the results. Well, whether body fat scales measure your "true" body fat percentage or not doesn't matter! As long as they can accurately monitor changes in your body composition over time, that's all you need.
