I have a Westell 328W that a cannot reset.

Security was setup on it and the key was forgotten. I tried a reset to factory defaults by holding in the reset button for as long as 30 seconds. It does not wipe out the security. Any ideas???

Can you log into your router from the PC it is setup from. This is where you'll reset. On the page I sent you in that link it tells how to reset from logging into the router itself. Looks like it is an internal reset.

Looks like the default IP is 192.168.1.1

Type this in your address bar and press enter

if it asks for a password and username and you didn't set one up, this is the default
    username: admin
    password: password
Now follow the rest of the steps from the link.

Let me know how it goes.

How do I find network key for wrt120n router

Every router I have ever seen allows you to reset the configuration to factory default - but not allow you to retrieve a forgotten password and maintain your settings at the same time. This is often referred to a "factory" or "hard" reset.

When you initiate a factory / hard reset, typically by pressing & holding a button on the router - or behind an opening in the router case - all the changes you've made to it will be returned to the factory default. Wifi becomes "open" with no password (on most devices), the login username / password also go back to default settings (common ones are: admin / admin, admin / password, <blank> / admin, <blank / password, etc.). Consult your router's set up guide or online documentation to learn what the factory / hard reset procedure and the default settings.

Once you gain access to the setup pages of the router, configure it as best as you can remember, and lock it down with good security settings. At minimum - this should include changing the router's username / password, the WiFi's SSID and do not broadcast it, add WPA or WPA2 encryption and secure it with a security or network key (use a mix of numbers, letters, symbols etc.).

I suggest recording all these settings on paper and then tape it to the bottom of the router. There it will remain out of sight - but ready when you need it.

Good luck!

Need to hard reset westell 7500 modem to factory defaults..cust chngd admin password and can't remember what they chngd it to and i need to get into modem

  • Note: Resetting your router to the factory defaults not only changes your router user name and password to the factory default values, but it also deletes all your home network settings. This includes the SSID and network encryption key. After you reset your router to the factory defaults, your home network won't be accessible until you reconfigure your router and all your network devices to use the same SSID and encryption key.
To reset your VersaLink 7500 gateway to the factory settings:

  1. Hold the reset button on the back panel of the VersaLink 7500 gateway for 30 seconds.
    • All your settings will be lost including network encryption information and any SSID information you have entered.
    • The gateway user name and password will revert to the default of Admin as the user name and Password as the password.

    versalink7500reset_425.gif

  2. Your VersaLink 7500 gateway is now using the default settings for the network configuration. This includes the default SSID and network encryption key. You must re-configure your VersaLink gateway to match your previous settings that were assigned to all other devices on your wireless network. Otherwise, no other network devices will be recognized.

I have a new lap top which is recognising the wireless network and then asking for a network security key. How do I find this?

The network security key is essentially a password that was setup to control access to your network. Presumably, when you set it up you gave it a password that you could remember, but not so obvious that people could easily guess. If you've forgotten or lost the password, you can reset the router by using a paperclip and holding the reset button for about 10-15 seconds. Once you reset the router, it will be restored to its original factory defaults and you can then setup again your wireless networking.

Encryption key

You will need to reset the router to factory defaults and set up wireless security again. Press the reset button on the router's rear panel and hold it for 10 seconds. Release it and wait for the router to restart (about 30 seconds).

Connect your computer to one of the wired ports on the router and access the setup pages using your Internet browser.

Router address: //192.168.0.1
username: admin
password: (leave blank)

Assign a new security key or passphrase in the wireless setup screen. Use the new key with your wireless adapter and you'll be able to connect again. Write the key down somewhere so you don't have to go through this again.

You can download a manual from D-Link here if you need one for all the setup information.

(Note that this all assumes you have access to the router. If you are just trying to connect to a network and have forgotten the key, you'll need to contact the appropriate person to get the key.)

You can't "find" security keys, you can only reset the modem to factory defaults. Press the tiny button on the bottom.

We have a westell, model 327W and do not have the security code or the one we have does not work. Whar do we do?

Access the setup page through a web browser on a wired computer. In the address bar, type 192.168.1.1.

Default Username: admin
Default Password: password

If this doesn't work, try admin for the username and password. If still doesn't work, then you will need to reset the gateway. Take note that before resetting the gateway, you need to know the internet connection settings. Resetting the gateway will restore the settings to default.

Once you are in the setup page of the gateway, go to Configuration> Wireless> then look for the wireless security. It should show you the WEP key.

Enter the wep key on your laptop.

I hope this works! Good luck!

How do I find security key for Westell 7500 that I forget or reset?

If you reset you have to use the default settings---on most routers the default setting is unsecured.

Reset the router and re-set a new security key.

Cant remember my netgear network key

Reset and Restore the NETGEAR device to Factory Default Settings Problem: var js_3;function initPsDisplay(){js_3 = new PsDisplay({"info":{"controller_name":"PsDisplay","name":"PsDisplay_3","type":"FormField","w_id":3},"attrs":{"label":"","tabindex":"","field_name":"description","cf_id":"","table":"answers","highlight":0},"js":null});js_3.init();}YAHOO.util.Event.onDOMReady(initPsDisplay); Symptoms:
  • Forgotten/lost password to log into the NETGEAR device
  • Cannot access the NETGEAR device web interface

Workaround: var js_4;function initPsDisplay(){js_4 = new PsDisplay({"info":{"controller_name":"PsDisplay","name":"PsDisplay_4","type":"FormField","w_id":4},"attrs":{"label":"","tabindex":"","field_name":"solution","cf_id":"","table":"answers","highlight":0},"js":null});js_4.init();}YAHOO.util.Event.onDOMReady(initPsDisplay); Resolution:
If you have changed the default password and have forgotten the password, you may need to reset the NETGEAR device to factory default settings.

When a NETGEAR device resets, it goes back to the state when it was new — all information that was entered by hand is lost! Examples are critical things you need to get online, such as ISP username, ISP password, IP addresses, wireless security keys, and ports and services that were opened. It all needs to be re-entered.
So, have your ISP information before resetting the router.
Naturally, if you moved to a new city, or if you bought a used router, the old information in the router may not be of use to you. Contact your ISP if you can't connect any computer directly to the Internet.

Reset for most routers with a reset button on the rear panel
Write down configuration information such as IP addresses, security keys, opened ports and services, etc., that you modified. (The default username is admin and the password is either password or 1234. Try these before resetting the router.)
  1. Press the reset button on the back until the test light blinks. This takes about 10 seconds. (To avoid accidental resets, the small button is recessed. Use a pen or paperclip to access it.)
  2. Release the button.
  3. Wait for the router to reboot.
  4. Log in with the default password. If the router configuration was not cleared, try these additional steps AFTER the router has finished rebooting.
  5. Unplug the router's power.
  6. Press and hold the reset button. While the button is held down, reconnect router's power.
  7. Continue to hold the reset button for 20 seconds after reconnecting the power.
  8. Wait for the router to reboot.
  9. Log in with the default password.

Hope this helps.......

God Bless.......
