How to turn microphone on

Acer laptops feature on-board microphones for sound recording purposes within Windows.
Since an internal microphone can be a very handy tool for communication and speech-to text capabilities, working without a functional mic can severely hinder work flow for many users.
If you do not have any prior knowledge of how to repair a non-functional microphone within Windows, you may feel the need to send off your Acer laptop for repair.
There is no need, because even the most novice Acer user can do it.

Go to "Start," "Control Panel," then double-click on "Add/remove Programs."
Click on the "Windows Setup" tab, "Multimedia," then select "Details."

Choose "Sound Recorder" from that screen, then click "OK."

If you were unable to record with your Acer microphone in Sound Recorder, continue to next Step.

Scroll your mouse over to the bottom-right corner of your computer screen and then double-click on the small speaker icon.
Slide the microphone volume slider all the way to the top and make sure that there hasn't been a mute check-box selected.

Cannot locate built in microphone. Skype cannotg access my sound card.

Have you checked in volume control that your mike is listed and is not muted. sorry, that is volume control/mixer.
You should also enter the sounds/ audio control section of your machine and ensure that microphone is there and is listed and ticked as an input device.

My acer e725 says the microphone is unplugged. Is the microphone built in and if so where is it located so I can plug the connector back in

It is probably located in the screen by the webcam. It would be connected to the motherboard inside your computer. Check your drivers make sure that it has them installed. If you need help with this please include the operating system your working with.

I have a acer with the acer crystal eye webcam built in it. do it have a microphone with it. if so how do I get it to work?

The Acer with crystal eye webcam will also have a built-in microphone. The webcam is in the center at the top of the screen. The built-in microphone is typically half-way between the edge of the screen and the webcam. It is a little opening with a microphone logo beside it. You can test both audio input with the built-in microphone and the audio output with the built-in speakers by doing the following....
1. click start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices
2. in the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties click the Voice tab, then click the Test hardware button
3. in the Sound Hardware Test Wizard window click the Next button, if required, click unblock...
4. speak into microphone to do the Microphone Test. Recording meter will show movement if it works.
5. click Next button to do the Speaker Test. Microphone input is now output on the speakers.
6. click Next button when finished doing the readings and click Finish to close the wizard.

1. check the "mixer" properties to see if you have the "microphone" muted in the task bar.
2.You may have lost the sound card drivers also.
3. you will need to go into the "Device Manager" and see if you have drivers install properly > if not reinstall the drivers.

I have acer crystal eye webcam but is there already a microphone in the laptop ? or do you have to plug in a mocrophone ?

My acer has a small hole where the microphone is located, and it doesn't even have a webcam. So, I think your Acer Aspire has a built in microphone. Most laptops have had that since Windows 95 or 98 or so.
