SONY PFM42B1

Just check - easiest with another tv if you have one that the signal source you are using is not the cause of the dimming. Also check that the voltage supply to the set is at the correct level - unlikely but a slightly lower voltage on the power circuit could dim your picture. The phosphor in a plasmascreen is generally a thin coating inside each of the tiny glass pockets which contain the plasma gas mixture (each of which becomes a pixel when activated). Unless you could open up each one of the pixel pockets and recoat the inside (not recommended) the answer to your question is no. Since the picture is made with phosphor, engineers can accurately predict the geometric decline of the phosphor?s potential brightness. Note that while the brightness declines slowly, the phosphors never actually burn out. Also, note how the rate slows over time. The rate of decline points to a specification called ?Life to Half Brightness? or LTHB. The half life ranges from about 10,000 to 60,000 hours, depending on model, it is about the same as you?d expect in a high-quality, properly calibrated TV or studio monitor.(see attached graph). Here is the link to the user manual for your set if you need it; http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=PFM42B1 Check page 97 of the pdf (page 45(GB) of the manual) - it explains the self diagnosis feature. Sorry I couldn't find the details of the resulting flashing light's meaning online - you need to contact sony with the results to find out for sure if your screen is the problem. Hope this helps - sorry if bad news :)

I lost my instructions for hooking my sound bar up to my new tv I ahd it hooked up to the last one and it worked now no sound and when I raise the volume it doesnt do a thing I programmed it to with m

Some sound bars have a seperate power cord, did you plug it in. Also, the source for the sound, are you using the audio outputs and not the audio inputs. They are all the same color (red and white) so you may have plugged in the wrong ones. If the sound bar is getting power, say a green led and the source for it is the tvs audio ouput jacks you might have to see if there is a seperate remote for the sound bar and raise the volume. Lastly the tvs audio output might have a seperate setting, it could be fixed or variable. Fixed will only change volume with the sound bar remote. In variable you will be able to change the volume with the tv remote but first you have to raise the sound bar level. Hope this helps in some way.

Audio goes off by itself & have to turn tv off then on to get audio back why

Appears that the audio volume mute functionalities have been altered to display momentarily shortly to go on silent mode. The TV settings have to be realtered to acquire default audio or volume features during functionality or operations. The type of device connected to the TV mayy simply operate mometorarily shortly least producing sound past several moments. Ascertain the devices with which the TV is acquiring audio or videography. Disconnecting to resestablish upon reconection should perform default functionalities. Refer to user guides for diagnostic performance of TV during operations. Consul technical experts thereafter. Good luck

A new LCD TV has expansion sound capabilities requiring adjustment to acheive viewer experience. First, the TVs default sound is what is heard soon as the powered on. Tempering with the remote controls volume fucntionalities to achieve adjustment suitable. The volume feature on the remote produces adjustment either reduceable or increasing sound magniftude. For example, acquring an external speaker system mentionable as home theatre system has already build blusting capabilities requirements. Once an external home theater sould producer devices are connected to the LCD TV, the expansion capability is increased. For example, the home theatre devices have woofers as bass magnifiers, tweeters as sound impression magnififers, and additionally, speakers with magnifier capacities. The LCD TV is designed to accomodate any extenal devices only mentionable example as the home theater sound sytems acquirable at retail. LCD TV sound capacities are capable of being modulated by using the remote control to access the settings areas on which sound is alteratered. I was wondering if there's a way to change audio out from variable to fixed cause I want the volume out only from my surround sound not from the tv I heard If I switch from variable to fixed the problem...

No variable audio out means that whatever the volume is at on the TV it will output that level from the TV. So if you have your surround sound on and if you change the volume on your TV it will also make your surround sound louder with out having to turn up that volume on your surround sound, but if you have your volume muted then so will the audio out. So if it is a fixed audio out then no matter what level you have the TV set to it will output the same level. If you just want audio to go to your surround sound then just hook the video cables up to your TV and the audio to your surround sound. I would guess that you are using Red and White cables... If you are that only gives you left and right audio. Not surround sound, so you would want to run optical, HDMI, digital coax, or the analog 6 channel audio cables.
