This is perfectly normal. Ram is constantly written to and erased thousands of times a minute. This causes it to heat up. On older laptops like the d600, they don't have a great method of cooling it down so it does get hot. Mine gets hot enough to burn me if i hold it wrong. Just make sure when you are using it, that the bottom gets away from the surface its on once in a while, and you should be fine.

D600 wont power up

Try removing the battery and boot on the power cord sometimes the battery shorts the system so it will not boot if it does boot then you need to replace the battery it could be the battery is dead and your power cord is bad check and make sure that is not the case if the power cord is good then I would look into replacing the mother board you can find a replacement on Ebay or at dell .if you have to replace it do a google search on hot to replace the mother board on a Dell latitude D600
and you will ba able to get step by step on how to disassemble it

Latitude D600 PC Notebook: Installed new RAM 1G on Dell Lat600,Now CPU is run...

It is not the memory causing the issue. You either have a clogged fan and heat sink or a bad fan. This will solve most heat issues with the laptop.http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/faq.html

Install this software and put the fan on manual high. That should help a lot if the fan is still working.

Upgrade RAM in a Latitude D600. one bay seems to fail

The memory bay is a part of the motherboard. Try each stick in each bay to make sure that the problem is the motherboard itself. Sometimes memory is incompatible with a particular laptop. Sometimes there is a maximum allowable memory. The maximum for your PC is 2 GB.

DELL LATITUDE D600 PROBLEM

DELL LATITUDE D600 has low configuration by itself. many od the softwares that exist today required more configuration as compare to what DELL LATITUDE D600 has.

Anyway, Download "WinXP Manager", it will remove all the junk files plus unused or error registry key and even optimized your system.
Here is the download link

http://www.yamicsoft.com/xpmanager/software/xpmanager.exe

Note :  you need to download  "Microsoft Dotnetfx 2.0 or later " in order to install WinXP Manager.Install the software and clean all the junk files and registry error and optimized your services.

Now Scan your PC  with a Good Antivirus like Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 or A-squared Anti-Malware with their latest updates installed. Both of them can detect Spyware, Malware, Adware too.

Make sure you have enough free space in your System Drive (usually c:).

Uninstall all the softwares that are not needed, remove the desktop shortcut as much as possible.

Click Start----Run----type "msconfig" then press enter
Click "Startup" tab and untick all the softwares that loads during system startup except yout Anti-Virus program.

Again, Click Start----Run----type "services.msc" then press enter

Disable all the services that you don't need.

Some example are : Automatic updates, error reporting service, help and support, remote registry, theme etc. It will save lots of CPU and meomory lifecycle.

Now, right Click on "My Computer " icon and select "Properties" and Click the "Advance" tab.
Under Processor click "Settings" button
under Visual effects,Select "Adjust for Best Performance",
Click "Apply" then "OK"

After all this Reboot your system and check if it help you a little.

I don't recommend you Disk Defragmentation as they speed up the system files access time only in theory.

If the problem still persists, Consider reinstalling your System.

Adding one more Physical 1GB RAM will boost your speed upto 50%.

That's it.

I recently upgraded my RAM and now the LatD600 runs really hot

Make sure you installed compatible RAM into your computer. If you're running RAM that is made for a slower speed, it will overheat.

How do you remove and replace dell laptop memory? (d600)

I dont know this particular model, but usually it's underneath the computer, there is one screw to remove and you can take out a door which gives you acess to the memory slots. If it's not there, you will need to remove the top cover to get there. But it's most likely a small door underneath the laptop.

Dell Latitude D600 - RAM not recognized

One of the DIMMS might be incompatible or faulry.
Put one DIMM in at a time to determine which is not working.
If they both work separately then it appears they are incompatible together. Try to get the DIMMs from the same manufacturer, with the same specs.
