LG LDS dishwasher soap door does't open until you open main door
I have an LG LDS dishwasher and am having problems with the unit. I have owned the dishwasher for just about two years. The first problem was when it stoped washing the top shelf of dishes, after checking the arms and other things I could think about I started dissasemling the inside bottom of the unit. Upon dissassembly I found the water diverter valve that lets the unit was the upper and then the lower levels in two different stages. I found that this was not working, not allowing water to be diverted to the top. I manually moved the valve to allow water to the top and bottom. This has helped this problem. Now the soap door in the unit will not open until you open the main door at the end of the wash.

Check to see if your getting power at the main board. To get to the main board, open the door and remove all of the screws around the door. This wil allow you to take off the outside cover. The power wires are the black and white wires on their own terminal going into the board. Careful because they should be live. If you are getting power here, you will need to replace the main board, if not check the connections to your dishwasher where line voltage comes in, located on the bottom right corner under the kickplate. Hope this helps.
The new energy efficient LG dishwashers take 2 hours from start to finish depending on water temp. Run your hot water at the sink prior to starting the unit.
I see all the time inproper loading of the dishwasher blocking the sray arms.
Put 1 teaspoon of detergent in the soap dish.
Run the unit without anything in it.
If the soap washes out the unit is ok.
Also here some improtant info. that often gets overlooked when a new dishwasher is installed.
Replace the water supply valve under the sink and water supply line to dishwasher. Over time minerals deposit in the valve and restrict the water flow to the dishwasher. This is especially inportant on todays water saving units. Many people replace an old dishwasher and hate the new unit due to a white film left on dishes. Although you may have paid for a professional installation a new shut off valve is almost never replaced even though the waterline may have been at an additional cost to you..
Contact LG support number. Have proof of purchase info available, but even if the LDS 5811ST is out of warranty, explain the symptom then firmly but politely explain that you are aware of a retrofit program for the LG LDS and LDF models that fix the problem of poor drying and water leaking from the _door_ panel (Lower left area)
Insist that they schedule a service call (no cost) or replace your dishwasher with the retrofit applied.
Make sure that there is nothing blocking the soap door from opening fully when the dishwasher is shut. This happened to me and I also thought that the soap door was opening during the cycle when it actually only partially opened during the wash and then popped open fully when I opened the dishwasher at the end of the cycle. So some, but not all, of the soap was used.
You may have a water issue. Be sure that the water line is connected to the hot water pipes, not cold water. If your dishwasher is connected to the cold water, the soap residue will occur because it cannot dissolve in cold water properly.
Is your water very hard?? If so, you may need to get a water softener to remove the hard scales.
water is getting past the gasket during the start up cycle. by the time the door opens, the water has caked up the soap. also, its not clear when in the cycle the door is opening. try using liquid soap. also, take a peek just after the machine has finished filling and starts washing to see if the door is opened on the soap disp. good luck mark
