Power supplies are not really not brand specific. What you want to be concerned with is the amount of watts that the power supply puts out. 600 watts is usually a safe bet for a power supply for a normal system. If however you have multiple hard drives videos cards you might want to shoot for a little higher wattage.

Here is a link a website that has power supplies.

I hope this Helps,

Thanks for using FixYa,

Eric

The issue with Dell power suppy units is that dell uses special connections, which I have always found annoying.

Video card upgrade compatibility for compaq presario sr1900 nx with windows 7 sp1 installed

All the information for your computers motherboard can be found here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00714521&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3190727#N534

The motherboard has a x16 PCI Express Video Card slot , so you should be able to put any PCI Express Video Card into this system. I would however refrain from putting something extremely powerful in there as you will encounter issues with the weak power supply in the system (Unless you upgrade the power supply too)

All modern video cards are PCI Express :)

Since you want to upgrade your video card to a much powerful one, you can check this out ATI Radeon HD 4670 HD4670 512MB DVI PCIe Video Card.

Doing the upgrade a power supply upgrade is also advisable since new video card like now requires a high power supply, upgrade the power supply to at least 500W and for a additional fan is already recommended to avoid any overheating problem.

The Dimension 5150 has a BTX case, which is nearly impossible to upgrade. The motherboard is NOT interchangeable (with a few exceptions, but none of which are true upgrades).

If you have a PCI Express slot, you can upgrade the video card but do not get a card that requires an additional power cable directly from the power supply. This is because the stock power supply is very weak and doesn't have outputs for additional cards. If the card requires no additional power, you should be fine.

You can upgrade your processor with the P4 [Prescott] 5xx or 6xx Series Processors with HT. The 5150 does not support core 2 duo processors. Depending on what you currently have, this may or may not be worthwhile. Also note that higher power processors run at higher temps, which sometimes causes a noticeable increase in fan noise.

The hard drive is easily upgradeable. Just buy any standard sized SATA hard drive. Your computer case supports two drives, so you could keep your current drive and just add a second drive. Remember to buy a SATA cable with the new drive because new drives usually don't come with them.

Overall, if you're looking to get outstanding performance, get a new computer. BTX computers are not gaming computers. You'll end up dumping money into this thing just to get a lousy increase in performance.

Ok. The Power Supply Unit that comes originally with your pc is intended for 270 watts only. Sorry, with that kind of power output, you can not upgrade ypur graphix card. I would advice, keep the card you already bought. Get something around 500 watts. Of course, it has to be connected outside the case (the one you currently have is a special form factor PSU). You can get one for around 50 dollars from most online merchants. Good luck.

Hi,

It seems that you have an integrated video card.

let me give you two options.
upgrade your mobo and video card which will probably cost you $500.00

or upgrade your memory for $200 to increase shared video memory.

hope this helps.

Upgrade cpu

It is a bit of a crapshoot trying to upgrade a processor from a major manufacturer. Their motherboards are designed specifically for the manufacturer and documentation on exactly what will work NOW compared to when the unit was new is rather hard to come by. They don't support people upgrading very well compared to the aftermarket manufacturers.

You should go to dell.com and put in your service tag to check your exact configuration yourself before spending any money.

According to Dell, the Dimension 5150 has a motherboard that uses the Intel 945G Express chipset. You can see INTEL'S documentation on that chipset's capabilities here. According to that documentation you can use a socket LGA775 with up to a 1066 MHz system bus speed.

Looking at Newegg, the fastest LGA775 processor with 1066 MHz are a 2.93GHz Duo core or a 2.4 GHz quad core. Again, no guarantees either will work with your system, and you definately want to make sure your power supply and case cooling are up to the task.
