Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook
If it is the fan, it may simply be cruft inside the brushless motor. It is possible to fix this following HP's manual at: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01311536.pdf
Once you gain access to the heatsink/fan assembly (this takes 6-90 minutes), you can remove 4 small screws, remove the fan from the motor, and clean it out. This worked for me.
Warning, many components are very ESD sensitive, and the flat cables and connectors are fragile.
Note to HP: Please make these easier to service! Adding a removable panel would have made this a 10 minute operation.
