hook up an external monitor to it (old crt monitors are good for something after all) and try pressing the function key and holding it down while pressing each of the F1 through F12 keys (we are trying to switch the display to an external monitor) the one you are looking for has a (O) looking symbol above it.
if that does not work look for a stuck screen closed button switch. that detects when the screen is closed and shuts off the monitor see if its stuck down and try and free it if it is stuck.
you may also try to hold a bright flashlight up to the screen at an angle if you can just make out some details then the screens back light is out. and will need to be replaced.
