Re: unable to hook the receiver up to the television
Mine used to work but I recently moved and think I connected everything
the same way, but I'm having the same problem you are now and I'm just
curious if you ever solved the issue? For whatever reason, I'm simply
not seeing the Dolby Pro Logic, PL Movie, etc. modes. Just the standard
Stereo, Arena, Theater, etc. modes. I'm connected to the receiver's
optical audio inputs both directly from my cable box and from the TV
itself, so I feel like I must just be overlooking something simple.

U may want a new cable , HDMI are notoriously sensitive and internally will break connection, even from modest bending , cheaper ones from Walmart are the most notorious , buy a nice one and u lessen this
The audio inputs on the receiver need to be set to receive the Optical signal on the switch you set the ps3 to. ie Game, DVD, AUX. Each switch needs to be set to receive the audio signal coming into it. Usually on the remotes setup feature.
Hi, Your receiver is really the same as my HTR 5240. Same back and front. basically. Go to Retrevo for manual. Shows all the hook ups. I have VCR , DVD, Tape Deck, hooked to mine but can't find the adapter so i can hook up my indoor fm antenna. All my components plug to back of receiver then there is one RCA wire running from receiver to Tv.
Have you tried to? I would need to see a wiring block. unit to unit, labeled at each unit including the monitor. I'll bet you can do what you seek to acheive..Give me more info, I'll show you how to do it.Just a list of makes, models, serial #s. If you have all this in PDF files, shoot 'em to me.I'll draw thr lines for you.
I don't have a solution to your problem -- but I do have the receiver and want to hook up my Plasma TV through the ONKYO TX-DS474 receiver. Its a great receiver but am not sure it will "do the job" being so old in the tooth.
The tape outputs is what you need to use. If there is not output on those tape outs, you have a preamp problem I'm afraid. I have seen these go out in the past when someone hooks up an output to the tape outputs and blows out the preamp IC. Good Luck
